Another song based on a poem by Robert/Robbie/Rabbie Burns the ploughman poet whose Birthday would have been today.

Some hae meat but cannae eat.
Others no hae that can eat it.

This just popped into my head so I typed it out.

True friends

True friends allow you to be you.
True friends never tell you what to do.
True friends never tell you who you can & can't talk to.

True friends are there for each other through thick & thin.
True friends sometimes treat each other like kin.
True friends forgive each other for a little sin.
When true friends play games with each other they don't get bitter if they don't win.

True friends respect each other.
True friends can act like Sister & Brother.
True friends sometimes disagree with one another.

True friends can be as loyal as man's best friend.
True friends agree to disagree to bring rows to an end.
True friends are people on whom you really can depend.
True friends will each other defend.

I've just come up with another 2 lines for this but don't know whether to leave it as an unconventional sonnet or add 2 more lines. (A sonnet is a 14 line poem but they normally have an abab cdcd efef gg rhyme scheme & are about love, in other words they normally consist of 14 lines which are comprise of 3 rhyming quatrains & a rhyming couplet at the end of it & are romantic.

Just a rhyming couplet this time for the present anyway.

You can't let 1 event leave you sick, bitter & twisted.
The urge to take it out on others for how you feel must be resisted.

I wrote this protest song when there was so much going on in the world.

My protest song

Verse 1

I want an end to all this killing.
That is God or Allah willing.
It isn't very thrilling.
In fact I find it chilling.

Chorus

I want an end to war.
That is what I want
I will never end the fight until they stop the war.
No-o war, no-o gore, no-o pain better pla-a-ace

Verse 2

Killing & thefts are against all creeds.
You're just wanting to do the deeds.
Of evil, you're sowing the seeds.
They're not due to any needs.

Verse 3

History & antiquities need to be preserved
They also need to be conserved.
They don't need to be destroyed.
Less destruction needs to be employed.

Verse 4

I want to know what all this fighting & destruction is for.
I want an end to all this war.
I want it to be solved by the jaw.
I want everything solved by justice & law.

I'd like to help end the stigma attached to some mental health issues as it causes unnecessary deaths from suicide by sometimes extremely talented people whose lives would have been saved if they'd have gone for help but didn't because of the stigma attached or the help wasn't available for them.

Contrary to popular belief not all people with mental health issues are off their heads. 1/4 of all people suffer from mental health issues at some point in their lives. The reasons behind it are varied. Bullying & harassment can cause them as can relationship breakdowns. Anybody at all can suffer from mental ill-health at any time. It's not always noticeable like some people think. In fact most of the time it's invisible. Some subjects are taboo so people don't talk about them which makes it harder for people. Sometimes they're caused by going through so much for so long & trying to stay strong. Everyone has a mental health. Some people have good mental health & some people have bad mental health & some people have average mental health. It's like a slider. We don't always stay the same. We move up & down depending on what's going on in our lives at that moment in time & what we've been through. Mental health includes a lot of issues like anxiety, depression, insomnia, stress & schizophrenia. I used to think all people with mental health problems couldn't understand what was going on around them or tell the difference between real & imagined but later realised that wasn't true & some people with mental health problems were highly functioning & when I saw "a beautiful mind" based on the works of the American mathematician John Nash realised that some schizophrenics are very intelligent (I wouldn't even be able to understand what he came up with). It's un-medicated psychopaths you have to watch out for as they lie, they're cunning, they don't have a conscience, they've always have an agenda & will do anything at all to fulfil that. The only way to deal with them is to avoid them. https://www.thoughtco.com/characteristics-of-the-psychopathic-personality-973128

If anyone feels suicidal they should speak to the Samaritans.

Anxiety & depression is normally treated with S.S.R.I's (simulated serotonin re-uptake inhibitor's like fluoxetine which increase the serotonin " a happy chemical found in the brain" levels ) or T.M.A.I.'s (tryptophan mood altering inhibitors like citralopram which increase a different happy chemical in the brain called tryptophan) both of these are more commonly known as anti-depressants or talking therapies such as self-esteem, confidence building & assertiveness classes, counselling or C.B.T. (cognitive behavioural therapy) which works on the basis that you've got caught in a depressive/anxious mood vicious circle because of circumstances but you can do something about it because it's not the situation itself that has made you feel bad but your thoughts or feelings towards that situation so if you either change the way you think about that situation or your behaviour towards it you'll feel better. It won't happen over-night & you may feel worse to start with. Transactional analysis works on the ego state model which is that no one has just 1 ego but 3, the parent which is divided between the critical or the nurturing, the adult & the child which is split between free & adapted & we all constantly change between these ego states when interacting with people. The critical parent ego state is like the bully in our heads constantly criticising ourselves & others, the nurturing parent ego state makes us act in a way where we look after ourselves & others, the adult ego state is logical & makes decisions based on facts, the free child ego state is very spontaneous, fun-loving & unrestrained & the adapted child ego state is obedient, open-minded & we learn a lot when we're in this ego state. Analysing our own behaviour & learning to relax is very useful when we're suffering from anxiety & depression but we have to be careful not to over-analyse things. Some of the smartest people I know have mental health issues. Then some supposedly normal people do crazy things like the people on British news reports recently who wasted emergency services time by putting their heads in microwaves & down toilets & jumping off a train at top speed on a high bridge just to be filmed for youtube videos.

2 useful online resources for dealing with these issues are http://llttf.com/ & https://www.getselfhelp.co.uk/

As well as the American mathematician John Nash other famous intelligent sufferers of mental health issues are Charlotte Bronte & Charles Dickens. I heard somewhere that people who pick things up very quickly & find it hard to forget things are more vulnerable to anxiety & depression as are creative people.

I've just finished reading, reading challenge book #3, a banned book which was Lady Chatterley's Lover & I think it ends funny. It got me thinking if I should make up another ending which answers all questions left hanging. I had lots of ideas. Do other people do this or is it just me?

I was lost for reading challenge book #4 a best-seller but remembered when I worked in W.H.Smith's on reading materials & had to do charts (I remembered so easily as some of the humour chart titles really stuck in my mind, I still laugh at them now) so thought I'd go along to my local W.H.Smith's & see what they had on book charts. I bought the child by Fiona Barton which I started today. I'm on page 84 already.

I've decided to do a few pieces on how to save lives.

The 1st 1 is if you see someone who's very upset & there's not an obvious reason as in they've not just been to a funeral ask them why. Nervous people can be chattier though sometimes they clam up. They may be depressed & if they don't get help they may become suicidal. Advise them to contact the Samaritans. Do the same if they appear to be attempting suicide. It may not work but there's a chance it will.

If people feel funny & their face has gone lop-sided dial 999 immediately especially if they just collapse or they can't raise their arm & their speech is slurred as these are signs of strokes & the sooner they get sent to hospital & seen to the more chance they have of surviving or surviving with as near normal capacity as possible.

Did you know the childhood rhyme "eeny, meenie, miney, mo" has Celtic roots as can be seen by the facts some East Anglians still use similar words, "ina, mina, tehra, methera & some Cornish people use "eena, mea, mona, mite" while some Cumbrians use "yan, tan, tether, mether" all to mean 1, 2, 3, 4?

The word Avon originated from the Brittonic word "abona" meaning river. The Welsh word "afon" means the same thing.

Dover originates from "dubris" meaning waters. Kent was originally pronounced "cantus" meaning periphery or border. Thames was originally "Tamesis" meaning the "darkness".

The word Britain originated from the French (Gauls) word Pretannike home to the Pretannikai. The British called themselves Pretani meaning painted people. This was changed to Britannia by the Romans.

The word Welsh originates from the Old English "wealus" meaning "foreigner". They call themselves "Cymry" though which means "companions". The word "companion" comes from Roman originally meaning someone you ate bread with as com means with & pan meant bread.

Did you know that the word lead is plumbum in Latin because the Romans used it for plumbing purposes? That will be why the chemical symbol for it is Pb. Apparently lead contains silver too. I wouldn't have fancied having my water out of lead pipes though as it's poisonous. Still they might not have known that then in the same way that old painters used paint which contained arsenic so they were literally killing themselves doing their jobs but they didn't know. I think old painters are much better than modern painters.

Did you know that Parkinson's is called the photographers disease, because of their exposure to chemicals in developing photos? Art can be dangerous. I don't agree that "old painters" are better than modern ones. It goes on a continuum. They riff off of each other, and the newer ones try to reinvent the form. And it's all a matter of taste.
