Now, Murray cannot get into the top 4 of rankings even if he manages to win the other
two RR matches. He needs to reach the finals, in order to be able to get back to top 4.
Chances of that looks extremely negligible at this point.

Stan will probably vacate his spot from #4. Someone, will capitalize on that. Who will
that be? Will it be the Samurai?

Personally I hope so. Sure he didn't win a slam like Stan or Cilic but he's been far more consistent all year rather than just a once off performance from both of them. He's been playing like the number 4 all year imo. No idea how many top 10 wins he has this year but it's gotta be be right up there. That said, Stan and Cilic have the possibility of building on their year still here.

Being listed on a Major trophy always overshadows consistent play IMO! Before he retired, Andres Gomez was highly regarded, but his FO win over Agassi in '90 makes him immortal; esp. in his country! :dodgy:

Not disputing that but if we're to go by points won then Cilic and Stan pretty much made the bulk of theirs with the slam wins and a few decent wins here and there but overall Nishikori has been much more solid year long and would be a more deserving number 4 should he get there imo. He has more top 10 wins than Stan and Cilic also this year.

Stan did very well at the beginning, winning Monaco too. But he kind of went AWOL after that.

Absolutely not a case of sour grapes here but Roger played an atrocious 3rd set in that Monte Carlo final and I think anyone who watched that match would agree. Stan got pretty lucky there. But he has indeed been pretty damn crap the rest of the year save for a few very good tiebreaks here and there.

I missed the last set, I'll take your word for it.

I wonder if kei can get a slam next year. Should probably be a hc one although he was beating Nadal in the final at Madrid until he got injured. Should be in the top 4 next year at a consistent basis, if his body stays healthy. He should play less events probs.

Anyways, 200 points in the bag today.

I'd love to see it. He's one of the most entertaining players to watch imo. Very aggressive and takes the ball so early. The Davydenko comparison made earlier in the thread is dead on in that regard. Agree about playing less but hopefully he'll get stronger and the injuries will be less frequent.

As aggressive as you think Kei is in comparison to other players, I still see him playing a bit defensively; allowing floaters to drop deep instead of taking them in the air and following the shot into the net for a "put away!" It bugs me so much to see today's "so called" tough men look so weak at times! It's bad enough with all the 2-handed backhands, but backing up that way only extends matches into possible losses that should be winners! :nono :puzzled :s :dodgy:

^ True, a lot of players lack the insight and killer instinct to get to the net to finish off points but he's definitely better than many of them out there at getting the point won sooner rather than later. He certainly doesn't hope to win points by moonballing/pushing the ball back in play and waiting for his opponent to miss. He goes for winners. But agree about the net part alright.

You were quick picturing Murray returning to the top 4 after he won 3 mini events the last couple of weeks. Big 4 is FINITO for good, you better believe me!
Murray is better than 12 ranking he hit a few weeks ago but not better than any of the current 5-8 and he may even finish the year ranked only 8. Milos can definitely beat him, as their H2H is 3-1 in his favour.

A rare great challenge from Roger there. 144 mph and he saw it like a melon.
