Came home thinking this match would be over... :cover What happened? Let me guess, Anderson was hitting big and Novak was tentative??

Nope! Anderson was serving out of his mind and was attacking relentlessly; executing deft touch at the net! :nono  :eyepop :cover
Fiero's right and I think Nole was a bit surprised at such.

There was still no reason to drop that 2nd set TB up 4-0; DF didn't help! :cover :eyepop :nono

Must be tough knowing that as #1 in the world every player can come after you with everything they have and nothing to lose. Credit to Fed and Sampras for doing it all those years.

Closing down the net on Centre Court after moving another match there a couple of days ago. :nono
Bet if Murray were in this situation, they'd have the lights on and things would keep going.

That is a joke for sure. What is their logic behind that one?

One difference to Sat. is that there would be no tennis on Sunday, and everyone had to play today. For tomorrow, the men wouldn't normally play, so it's an option.

I do not know if this will make a difference ultimately , but this helps Anderson big time. He now can regroup, try to create the tennis that he was able to in the first couple of sets. Because he was not going to get back to that level today in the fifth. Now he has to play one set of good tennis.

Again, in the end, it might not matter if Nole shows up to play from get go.

I really wasn't surprised. I would expect the 10pm cutoff to apply during the week. It would have taken half an hour to sort the logistics out. It really wouldn't have made sense

That probably is their "logic" but it's still stupid. If you have the means to finish the match today (and they obviously do) then there is no excuse not to. Even with their clownish curfew they could've had the players over there and playing by 9:15 easily if they had planned ahead properly.

In general, except under rare circumstances, they like to play the entire match on the same court. They don't like to play part of the match in one court and part in another. You will notice that whenever a suspended match continues the next day, it will always be on the same court.
This is the secondary reason. Primary reason being that men do not play tomorrow and they can afford to postpone.

Did you think otherwise?

To win yes but not so easy if Bautista wouldn't have had his ankle problem

Yeah, surely mighty Agut would've given Roger tons of problems on grass if he was 100% :laydownlaughing

Yep, you are right, I forgot that Roger has the EASIER draw that I've never seen before :laydownlaughing :lolz: :nono :cover :ras:

The only difference between the Simon-Monfils match and the Djokovic-Anderson match is that the former was right before a day off and they wanted to get it out of the way. Djoko and Kev can play a set between the women's matches somewhere. Not saying I agree with it but moving from one court to another is a whole lot of to-do when you can have an extra tidbit of excitement for the masses tomorrow.

On the deeper discussion of draws, seemingly easier draws can be good or bad. On one hand you're conserving energy on the other hand, you might be slow out of the gate when a real competitor is apparent.
Given Fed has Simon next, he'll be able to break a little (read:tiny) more sweat and put a little more miles on those legs

I don't have to check anything, again, the EASIER draw I haven't seen before
And next we'll see against Simon who is surprising me how well he is playing but who usually sooner or later is going flat like a balloon (like Gasquet) hope this time I'm going to be wrong ;)

The producer in me thinks that they don't want to pay OT if they don't have to.

Anyway, another thing that doesn't help Anderson tomorrow, or in any case, is no TB. He'll have to break Novak's serve early, I would say, to have any chance.

The USO has been an embarrassment for as long as I can remember; the incompetence concerning the draws "knows no bounds!" Besides having to be re-pulled after some shady seedings, you had open favoritism! My mouth still hangs open to what they did to "one of their own;" another American! Maybe 30 years ago someone by the name of Brown went well past midnight to finish a 5 set match! They had him out there against Connors at Noon the same morning! I was disgusted and figured they like being relegated to the worst Slam of the FOUR! The surface changes, playing best of 3 early on in the tourney, starting play under the lights in '75; costing some upsets! They thought they were cutting edge; I called it a 2nd rate event! I still remember a pro back in '78 saying, "they ought to A-Bomb this place!" :nono  :dodgy:

I don't agree with everything you said, but there is no doubt that the U.S. Open schedule is made up by this savy squad.

Good point. In some ways, I was thinking how stupid they are making themselves look like when they don't continue the match the same day, despite the possibility for that on CC. But there's also that aspect, TV coverage is gonna end soon after 9pm so they wouldn't want to continue much longer.
