Court 2 (graveyard of champions) revived. Three clunkers in a row from former champs or #1s (Hewitt, Caro and Masha).

Well there is a lesson in all this. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do w/ Serena though. I guess it goes back to what I was saying the other day that Maria's grass game is not as good as it was. Outside of the Final in 2011, she has gone out before the QF in the last 6 years.

its karma:sniggerplus she really looked angry by playing on this court 2.This is the problem with playing on CC and thinking other players are below you:nonoyou get shown the door..De Brito was very good and played well from the baseline..
pova should blame Rolling Stone magazine...they thought they are fixing Serena but ended fixing pova...:snigger

Don't be silly Tossip. She should blame no one but herself. That was some sloppy, uninspired tennis from Maria. You're right about Larcher. She controlled many of the baseline rallies which you wouldn't think was possible against Maria.

I know, I'm was jesting. But, as she's gotten better on the clay, her grass game has regressed. Interesting too, considering that the grass has been slowed, which one would think works in Maria's favor.

As far as Caroline's lost, what's the surprise? I mean her game is not intimidating enough.

It's been a nightmare for seeds today!
#2 #3 #9 and #12 are gone, bit the grass, out...
#8 advanced, that was Petra who got a walkover!

Only Alize Cornet who is seeded #29 won her match!

Match of the day is Sloane vs. Petko, two and a half hour and counting...

I know you were joking Calvy. I was making a point for the rest of the board. I was not surprised by Caro's lost. TBH, I kind of half expected a R1 loss.

6-6 in the decider between Sloane/Petko. We are in extra innings now

What is with all the retirements and players slipping and falling? Wimbledon should be embarrassed at the state in which all the players are losing his or her footing.

I agree with you - something must be done before it's turning into a betting tournament. Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic, Caroline Wozniacki, Safarova are the seeds that have dropped out today - so far. More walkovers. Players are falling on the grass as never before. Is it over with grass tournaments or should they only be played with shoes with spikes. I must say I think they should leave the grass tournaments so we only have clay and hard court IMHO. What do you think?

No way can you eliminate grass. It's already a short season as it is. Only 4 weeks out of the year. This is the first year I remember it being this bad. There must be something they are doing to the grass this year. I also remember a few people slipping and sliding during the early days of the Olympics last year. I think that had more to do w/ the quick turnaround of the grass from the end of Wimby.

pova was just outplayed on the graveyard court, she is not the first or the last to lose on Crt 2..Serena nearly lost last year but she just composed herself and won.

Players are not falling on grass at greater numbers than before, McEnroe dispelled that rumor this morning. Players in his day fell all the time, just wasn't televised or mentioned as much.

Also, he stated, players playing much further back in the section that isn't as wore. If you noticed where they've fallen, it typical far behind the baseline.

As far as eliminating grass, there have been FAR more injuries from hard courts then grass has ever produced. And aside from Vika, the other players didn't lose because they fell, they lost because they LOST.

Ivanovic was just outplayed,Wozniacki has always lost early at Wimbledon so no surprise there, pova is not that good on grass as the media wants us to believe plus her involvement in the Serena situation brought bad karma on her.Serena is smart by apologizing all over the place because that neutralizes all bad vibes.

This was such a disappointed result for all Masha fans but all the credit to Michelle Larcher de Brito who played fierceless and on top of her game - She was the better player from the first game on - I wish her good luck for the rest of Wimbledon and hope that she can keep on playing well in her future matches

JJ down a set and a break to Dolonc 7-5 2-0. Bartoli/McHale involved in "I know I can break serve, can you?" It's 6-5 in the opening set.

Let's not get cocky Serena fans there are plenty of ladies left in the draw that can upset Serena. One match at a time. Sorry, Sharapova fans.
