Brexit watch:

It is done, all the British Fellas have exited. However, Andy is still there. But, he is Scottish and has voted to remain just like his fellow Scots.

Now Scotland has to become independant and come back in Juncker's world...

Believe me when I say that nothing will be easy ! It's a very turbulent time politically and a lot of soul searching is required to determine what our path will be

Here's the Fourth Round:

Querrey vs Mahut
Goffin vs. Raonic
Federer vs. Johnson
Cilic vs. Nishikori

Vesely vs. Berdych
Tomic vs. Pouille
Gasquet vs. Tsonga
Murray vs. Kyrgios

All of a sudden we have some great matches ahead of us. Nice to see that one of Querrey or Mahut will reach the QF. Goffin and Raonic could be a good one, but I suspect Raonic will win it. Johnson is having a bit of a break-through so there's some upset potential, but Roger will probably take him. Cilic and Nishikori could be good, a repeat of the 2014 US Open final. I think Kei will enact revenge.

In the other half, Vesely could be breaking through to a new level. I see upset potential vs. Berdych. Tomic and Pouille could be interesting. Tomic has been playing very well, although Pouille is rising and could be next year's Thiem. Gasquet vs. Tsonga - battle of the Frenchmen. I suspect JW will win. Murray and Kyrgios could be very interesting, and very heated. I think Andy will win, but I'm hoping Kyrgios upsets him.

Yet no-one seems to be happy... Except old (in the main poor !) people who somehow believe everything will get better. And by better (and lets not sugar coat it) they are essentially saying they believe that Eastern Europeans and Middle East Asian people will leave as they are no longer welcome and that somehow this will make us better. I am sure I am preaching to the collective converted when saying that almost none of those things will actually happen nor would that make anything better for anyone and just now I feel ashamed and embarrassed by the rhetoric around immigrants. (which in itself has an overt cultural and racial bias - i.e. when we talk about the negative stereotypes of immigrants are we talking about people from the US, Canada, Ireland, RSA, Oz, NZ, Germany, France, etc - but through media representation, the prevailing view from the anti-immigration lobby is very much that anyone from Eastern Europe or Middle East Asia are not welcome - what makes it worse is that the referendum result actually does nothing to address this tangibly but instead has succeeded in creating a culture of fear and making EU membership all about immigration instead of legitimately exposing / discussing things like TTIP, Fracking, Global Trade Agreements, race to the bottom Corporation Tax regimes, Global Warming, etc. and then making a decision based on these far more important things).

I could not disagree with you more. Your media, the political class, banks and global corporations have worked together to shape that narrative. You bought it hook, line and sinker. This was not about immigration, it was about sovereignty to determine one's future through duly elected officials rather than hired bureaucrats. To buy into the meme that the "exit" folk are old, intolerant, racist, poorly educated, and low income - is rather narrow minded and judgmental.

There are countries already lining up to make trade deals with the UK post-Brexit. The UK will have greater flexibility to make deals that are favorable for them. Scare mongers and doomsayers use intimidation to control. The sky hasn't fallen. The world hasn't ended. Brits are resourceful folk and will find the best and most advantageous way through this. Long term, I think the EU is in much more trouble than the UK. My opinion.

Long term, I think the EU is in much more trouble than the UK. My opinion.

There are demographic studies which 'prove' the point in regards to age / social class, etc - the LSE did a good job in presenting the facts in a fairly objective view for those interested. But I am not so much taking 'stock' in this (demographic study) as a stick to hit people with and say they were wrong - I am merely pointing out that narrative of the debate boiled down to immigration - Although it is one persons opinion I can say that I did observe this first hand.

re trade deals, perhaps they will come to fruition quickly perhaps they will be lengthy - Again its not really the point I am making - the point is that these things were discussed but were never central to the way the majority of people voted - the narrative was dominated by immigration instead of being dominated by the things that mattered - its no surprise that since then the number of race related attacks is up five-fold - be it an 'unintended consequence' or not - I would argue that through the approach it was an inevitable consequence.

As for Brits being resourceful I am not sure that is necessarily a truism for Brits than say any other set of people - you are right that they will deal with the situation and will hopefully deal with what they are faced in the most advantageous way possible, but there is no dispute to the economic fall out that this has caused and will continue to be felt at least until 2020 (revised proposal to be running a budget surplus) - longer term who knows, may be better may be worse...

Circling back to Scotland, there are lots of issues with being part of the UK and being in Europe, likewise issues being part of the UK and being out of Europe, likewise issues being independent and in or out of Europe. I think it will be a very difficult decision for people should the opportunity to make such a decision occur.

I've seen the demographics as well. Here is another interesting tidbit that would suggest it was not the old people sticking it to the young. They did it to themselves.

It's funny, in some societies they respect their elders for their experience and wisdom. After Brexit, they're just another excuse to diss the democratic process. But think of it this way: who wants to live in a world designed by the snapchat generation? Who'd allow gormless fickle students and student politics to lead the debate?

Rational National,

There's a thread dedicated to Brexit in the global news forum. I think your views would be welcome there, because I think there are more things to this than immigration, and that in fact the only real option offered to Britain was to reclaim control of their own budgets, laws and borders from the corrupt, unelected mandarins of Brussels.

I have friends in Scotland who have witnessed abuse from both nationalists and Remain voters. It doesn't get in the news because the easy meme is to dismiss the 17m as old bigots, racists, etc, when really nothing could be further from the truth...

Yeah, I agree. When I have a bit of time I will move these posts over to that thread.

Odds for winning Wimbledon after SF is set.

1. Andy 8/13
2. Fed 3
3. Milos 7
4. Bird 20

In terms of percentages, approximately Andy 62%, Fed 25%, Milos 12%, Bird 5% (If you are wondering that they don't add up to 100, they don't necessarily have to in the Bookies world).

It is time to remove Roger officially from the list of contenders. The way things are, I doubt that he can win Wimby even if someone else takes out Novak.

For once, I made a realistic prediction about Fed, instead of just givng a fan boy prediction.

I am not sure anyone mentioned, in the boys event, Canadian Denis Shapovalov won the title.
