So, before Serena set her foot on Ashe Stadium to play her first match, the top three seeds in her half have gone home one way or other.

Svitolina just lost so Makarova takes her place as Serena's SF opponent.

Anyone know what the betting odds are these days?

OK. Here are the current odds for outright winning of USO.

Serena is way ahead the rest of the pack. Vika, Simona and Petra are all close to each other.
Then it takes a tumble down.

Serena Williams 4/6
Victoria Azarenka 9
Simona Halep 9
Petra Kvitova 11
Angelique Kerber 33

p.s. Note that Serena's odds are less 1. This means, you cannot even double your money by betting on Serena.

Yes, but it is not technically an upset.

True, Makaroni was seeded higher but I thought Svitolina had been playing better lately.

I was wrong.

Again. :dodgy:

And Venus takes Bencic's place.

It would be interesting if someone could post the h2h of Serena vs. Field (the remaining players only)
as we go along.

I don't see very many players left who has defeated her and even those have hardly 1 or 2 wins barring Venus.

I think that Serena might become like Frodo, the nearer she gets to Mount Doom. Sure, the load looks light when you look at her record, but it becomes much heavier the closer you get. She'll win, I have no doubt about it, but she'll face the odd Gollum along the way, to both hinder and help her... :devil

Keys 1-0
Venus 15-11
Makarova 4-1
Kvitova 5-1
Azarenka 17-3
Halep 6-1

Can't think of anyone else who she might face.

Makarova lost to Mladenovic so another revision. Serena will probably have to get through Venus and then Mladenovic and then finally Halep to win the Slam.

I think she might face Azarenka in the final. And I think she'll drop two more sets before she's done, but not in the same match...

Just Edited the list and sorted. There are 8 players left in the bottom half and 3 in top half.
Serena's H2H against these 11 is 77-20. Of the 20 losses more than half have come to Sis. Venus.

With none of those wins at a GS.
