Serena is on the brink of achieving something extraordinarily rare: completing the Calendar-Year Grand Slam.

Will she do it?

this time she will.....no Justine with her hand tricks..but I remember when Azarenka won over Serena in Doha she was regularly using her hand to stop Serena from serving,,,just like Justine did in that 2003 match at Roland Garros..

Every player and their mama will throw the kitchen sink at her, so expect drama and a couple of 3-setters, but she gets it done. :velo:

The buildup is too great. If she doesn't make it, sports sites will crash, journalists will be jumping out of windows, and all tournaments for the rest of the year will be canceled.

I think Serena made it too far to not get this. Her fight is too strong to want to not go for it.

I think she has a 40% chance of making it. But despite the fact that I thus voted "no" I wouldn't mind if she managed to do it.

If someone beats Serena than that player will have to increase her security as well I think. :) People (leaving aside the inevitable haters) want her to do this and anyone who interferes with that will immediately become a villain.

I think the key here is will Serena play anyone who will induce/take advantage of any nerves or cracks in her game if the nerves and cracks show up. I just don't see anyone on her side that would make her panic. Bencic might be able to as she is a steady player, but other than that I can't see anyone who would keep it close to her on her side of the draw. That is where Serena is her own worst enemy is the panic she can get when someone plays her close.

you should see tweets from the media...:eyepop...their colors are coming out.It has become really crazy...I am surprised by Rod Laver s comments about Serena, that she is only hits hard and that she only use force no dropshots..their colors are coming out:rolleyes:

Well, people see what they want to see, and once they have an opinion about someone it's very difficult to make them snap out of it. Fact of the matter is that, for me at least, Serena is playing a much more attractive and complete style of tennis since the pulmonary embolism scare. And it's not all about the serve as you often hear either. She would beat many of these girls even if she was only allowed to play return games.

Well things are shaping up nicely in her quarter as most of her potentially deadlier SF opponents have bitten the dust.

Yes, but IF Serena loses it's more likely to happen against a lower ranked player than someone from the top 10 or 20. Cibulkova could potentially be a banana skin as well.

I disagree! If she is to lose, it will be in the finals. If you review her last four US Open's, she's more or less has sailed through to the finals, and her only hiccups have been in the finals, which the exception of her final with Caroline, where she more or less rolled.

Of all the slams, the Open is the one major where she hasn't lost to a low ranked player early. Realistically, it's where she has been her most consistent, and I don't see that changing.

I think she'll make finals, easily, and then nerves will really be intense, but, she'll fight her way through it and win
