Why is everyone talking about Serena at this moment. At the moment, Maria's game has gone to crap without any of Serena's help. She is now doing what Serena does now which is lose to the nobodies she once beat. The only difference is Serena is Serena and whoever she loses to doesn't affect her ability to shake it off and move forward.

I said Serena loses to nobodies for the most part. Only difference is Serena still has the ability to lose to some random WTA nobody one week then come back and win the next tournament or next ten. Sharapova not so much. ;)

As a screamer fan he has a problem understanding that ;)

Poker face is normal in Tennis, she does a mean poker face.
She normally does not smile until she wins the match.

A poker face hides everything, the good and the bad. Pova can hide the good and keep a steely non smiling face when winning. I'm talking about the desperate, on verge of crying, pitifully searching for Sven's approval look she has when her game is off. What is funny is that this look shows up pretty fast, during the 1st sets she loses, and never leaves her until she wins the last point. That is not a poker face.

yes she does have this crybaby face when losing and then Sven stands up clapping cheering her on....at the USA Open he was scared to cheer the way he did at RG14.He tried that same tactic during the Kerber vs pova Wimbledon match but Kerber s camp was not having it...they also started cheering Kerber on like crazy...:laydownlaughing

OMG, there is nobody with a crazier look on her face than Serena, winning or losing; of all fans, hers are the ones that should not discuss this "virtue" in other players. At least Masha hasn't threatened anybody:lolz:

And I am not bothered with Serena's behaviour at all, all players pump themselves up the best way they can, never bothered me that at all.

People dissing other players instead of being worried about their own, no way I can understand that.:puzzled

Masha might not get to 10, but 5 is a nice number anyway, better than most active players have:clap

Sounds suspiciously as if you view criticisms of any player other than one's fave as "dissing"; if that's so, we might as well close down the forum. One can't have a viable discussion based only on one's thoughts about one's fave

OT, I can't see Maria reaching 10, especially given the pattern that has developed in the last months of her constantly barely scraping out of 3 set fights

If you don't want to see people dissing Masha you may not want to be on this board...well any tennis board for that matter. She's not exactly a favorite among tennis insiders and close watchers.

Well, she's not wrong that a lot of petty "dissing" goes on between fan groups, but it's to be expected, as long as it sticks to players. I'm not convinced by your claim, which I bolded above. I'd be interested to know where you get that.

pova won her slams with a little help from her friends...anyone remember Larry Scott. That guy helped pova to win her first 3 slams and Stacey was his deputy and is still peddling that pova must win at all cost agenda..easy draws favorable scheduling and court assignments...

I believe SK is right, although there may not be readily available data to support the observation. The screamer's popularity rides heavily on fans who are attracted to her non-tennis attributes. True tennis followers generallly appreciate her tremendous fight, but not much else.

"yes she does have this crybaby face when losing and then Sven stands up clapping cheering her on"
"Dream on! I just No No SMH not being able to understand the interest, admiration, or even respect for Maria! I always have the feeling she's only taking advantage of upsets by other players!"
"In other words, she's terribly overrated! Snigger Lolz Lay Down Laughing Angel"
"Maria only wins things if Serena isn't around to spank her bottom. She knows who's Boss when she faces Serena."

Those are just posts from 3 pages of this topic.

That is my evidence.

People who watch tennis closely don't seem to love Maria. I'm not saying its scientific fact. I'm just saying: if you want anecdotal evidence look at this forum.

I think Maria is on a decline in terms of her popularity. I think she was incredibly popular between her 2004-2008 years, and then she became a bit of a joke when she continuously fell flat on her face against Serena. She gained a bit of an upsurge when she finally won a major again in 2012 and got her game together. Now, I think with her game in decline, her continued ability to lose to Serena, and her shrieking actually getting worse than it was has added to increasing dislike of her.

USA Open 2014 was an example of how fans cannot stand her stiff screeching self absorbed persona...the way they booed her during her match against Caro was a pleasant surprise....even Queen Elizabeth is more humble than pova.
