I hope it is not a Serena vs Pova final. What a bore that would be. Vika or Petra would provide a more competitive match for the viewers.

I agree. Serena/Sharapova is way too predictable, and would be a bore. Can you even make money through those betting sites if you put money on Serena to win?

I would venture to guess that you can make money betting on Serena, but the percentage gained will be small. Basically, anyone betting against her is calculating the probability of her getting injured before winning the final. As we all know, that probability is not zero.

Serena is 1.5 (1/2). In other words her chances of winning are rated at 66.67%.

Interesting that the only other players to get votes are both out. I mean could understand the Vika vote, she was a serious contender, but......

If Pova did not have such an easy draw, I would have predicted her exit before the semis. However, things being the way they are, Pova should make the semis.
Your wish is Wimby's command. Maria is out in 2R and Vika withdraws. So we'll see who gets to final on this side of the draw. Petra is still alive.

no she is not:nono today she wrote a book of excuses for pova s loss. She loves pova and its sickening....I dont like her commentary because she is very boring and not objective..all she talks about is how much she loves pova.

To be honest this Wimbledon just has a meh feeling to me. It feels like we are just heading to an inevitable Serena victory, it says a lot that seemingly the biggest threat looks to be Lisicki. The bottom half just feels very bad from a selling point of view unless Stephens comes through, or Kvitova hits form (notice I say hit form and not scrapes into the final playing woeful tennis), which seems unlikely. I have this awful feeling you are going to end up with a pretty bad tournament from semi finals onwards with no real intriguing matches.

its not Serena s fault that the draw is decimated...everyone started on equal footing..

I am not blaming Serena at all . Serena isn't the only one who was going to be involved in matches either. These decimated tournaments rarely make a good tournament though.

This is not true, just because you don't have the "names" still in certain parts of the draw does not mean you won't have a good or great tournament or intriguing matches.

Remember when Li, Stosur and Schiavone had their slam runs, those tournies were still very good.

That's the case if the draw completely falls apart though. You don't have that here. In the top half you have the overwhelming favourite and seemingly her biggest threat scheduled to meet in R4. You have a bottom half where if Kvitova doesn't rewind the clock 2 years there are no real threats in it at all.

So, the draw doesn't follow predictions, this is when you get the new forces in tennis or that next group player's, when the unexpected happens. Who is to say Kanepi, Robson, Pironkova or some other players not generally looked as threats shine means there isn't going to be great tennis. De Brito played fabulous tennis to defeat Maria, so, the unknowns are capable.

This a sports competition, things like this happen.

You can't sell dead meat though. This is exactly why they need Stephens or someone to make a run, because as you say you need new forces to shine. If you end up with something like Bartoli vs Makarova in the semi-finals, that will completely bomb. People have to believe in what they are seeing.

It's this same principle why the French Open on the mens side, the final bombed in terms of interest, intrigue, viewers etc.. Because there was just no intrigue to watching Nadal beat Ferrer part 100 (and this is despite the fact Ferrer had taken sets off him in their recent encounters, people still didn't really buy into it).

For me the most interesting thing about this Wimbledon is that youngsters like Stephens, Keys and Robson are all doing very well. It will be interesting to see how far they can go. Of course it would be better if so many of the big names hadn't already been eliminated, but that is mostly because we are used to them. It doesn't mean that the matches between those that are left will be any less fascinating. You have to take Serena out of the equation though. Even if everyone in the top 10 would still be in it Serena would still be the favorite by a huge, huge margin. Nothing has really changed in that regard. And if she for some reason slips up it could happen just as easily against someone else than against Vika or Maria.

The problem is you're just used to certain players being there every week. Guess what,, one day they won't be there, just like one day Laver, McEnroe, Sampras, Agassi, Martina, Chris, Monica and Steffi weren't, and the game has more than survived.

I'm the were some people like yourself whom saying the same thing about Federer, Djokovic and the Williams at some point.
