So, what's wrong with the above schedule? First, as @MargaretMcAleer rightfully complained, the women's matches are being played simultaneously. Second, neither is being played on Armstrong. It can't be about the way they're selling tickets, because they have no tickets to sell. Why can't they play the women's and men's SFs one after the other, and all on Armstrong? I don't see an issue with suitable rest. And aren't they crowding the lorckerrooms, with this schedule, which is non-COVID safe?

Apparently there is forecast for rain on Friday and Saturday.WTA and officials decided to put both ladies finals on the same time,so neither finalist would have had more exposure to court conditions on Armstrong before the final.

I am off to work bye for now

The chance of rain here tomorrow is basically negligible. Saturday, though, looks terrible, and they will definitely play on Armstrong, as it now has a roof. I really don't see that they are at a risk to put all 4 matches on Armstrong tomorrow, especially since it has a roof.

Well first you have to explain the expression you use. Next - this is not the only match I've seen with Serena. GOOD players like Sakari and others can see they have a chance and are playing for it - just remember how close Rus was - it was only in the final of her gsme nerves came. I don't say Serena is a bad player but I think she''s a bit surprised that she has to work this hard. Age - well don't use that excuse. And as a regular commentator in a Danish tennis mag I have to look a bit neutral on the players and point on ups and downs in their playwise - so it was with Wozniacki too and I was not always popular with her fans - even if I was one of her biggest :good:
You mean "Eeyore"? He's that character from Winnie the Pooh who always sees the negative. You've been kind of a downer, of late. (I say that with love.) As to Serena and age...You may think it doesn't matter, but I do think it affects the way a player approaches matches. She has gone a bit tentative, and is waiting for errors more than being aggressive, which is not her norm. And her serve is off. How "generous" of you not to say that "Serena is a bad player," because that would make you delusional.

It will be interesting to see if the Americans change their minds about coloured people - and this time I'm very pessimistic. To me USA has developed (might be the wrong word) into a full scale banana republic. You Americans have to do a lot of rethinking about: Guns, social laws, tax, education, health care -and a good way to do that is to look at the Scandinavian countries and how they have built up a society -THAT works.

I know English isn't your first language, so let me just tell you that "colored" is considered derogatory in English, in this day and age, and you might reconsider using it. As to the rest of your comment, you're not at all wrong.

Well done to Konta making the s/finals,she has played well and must take her positive form into the USO.

I'm glad Osaka was saved from sacrificing this tournament to make a point! Tennis went along with other sports and just cancelled yesterday's schedule! Gonna be tough making it up for both the men and women since the USO starts right away! :)

It's not that tough. They don't even have to travel for the USO

I think Victoria needs this win more. When was the last time she won a title?Furthermore, she needs to defeat a top ranked player whose won slams.
Definitely an argument to make that Azaranka "needs" it more, and is on a good win streak. Though Osaka could do with the boost going into the USO. In any case, it's hard not to pull for the woman who was willing to throw in the towel, on principle.

Oh, no! Osaka has just pulled out of the final citing hamstring. I did see her tug at it late in the match yesterday. I hope this is mostly out of caution to protect her USO.

It's a good move by her, for her lst round match at the USO is on Monday. Hammy's are a tough injury needing significant rest. To play today with a match on Monday, even though it's for the title, would surely jeopardize her chances for the event, which could possibly cause her to pull out even then.

Too bad, for I was looking forward to the match this morning.

Just got home from work and was looking forward to watching the final on replay?
Read the news, hopefully Osaka's hamstring will be okay for the USO,playing on it may have made it worse in the final.
Happy for Vika who has played some 'Vintage Vika' tennis during the tournament. Both ladies can take their good form into the USO.
