The commentators on Sky Sports seem convinced that Nadal would still beat Fed here, or at least give him a lot of problems in that match. As I have already said, Nadal almost certainly won't reach the QF, and even if he does, he will put like 5% of Roger's serves back in play and provide us with a double fault galore. It would be interesting to see that match, how anxious would Rafa get? :cover

I mention this every year and will say it again: It is the stupidest thing to play with different balls leading up to the climax of the hard court season, which is the US Open, and switch the balls for the Open. Never understood that one.

With Milos gone, Rafa's chances of reaching QF has increased, assuming he can get past Chardy.

I have never seen Roger return a second serve like this. He practically half volleys it on the service line and attacks. And it got him a break. Wow. Almost practice court stuff there...

Ya, that is very weird. Will he try that against any decent player?

I doubt it but this is Roger. Anything to shorten the point...

I would imagine seeing Roger across the net would have a very calming effect on Rafa, no? ;)

Good thing that Fed got a fairly easy opponent in the first round. Helps to play into the tourney after five weeks of break. Fed had abysmal 43% first serves in (at one time it was at 33%) and also has a negative differential.

Fed will most likely play Anderson in the next round.

Then comes other members of big four one by one: Rafa, Andy and Nole.

So Feli also has beaten Raonic in the first round? wow, too many good players are out already also in the first round. It seems to be an easier way for others ......

The USO is the most poorly run Grand Slam. Wouldn't surprise me if they refuse to cooperate with the other tournaments. So much of what they do makes no sense.

I think Roger was practicing his half volley on Agut's 2nd serve in preparation for playing Rafa. :snicker.

I don't know if it's the most poorly run, but it's certainly the most unapologetically commercial. They would use balls made by McDonald's if they paid enough. ;)

It's been ranked last in my book for years; esp. after they moved to Flushing! The other majors are run smoother and are very accommodating! The USO has been a joke for years from the draw controversies to the ridiculous scheduling! It's been a nightmare for as long as I can remember and that's a very long time!

It might be what the doctor ordered, a battle vs Federer(however Rafa has quite a deal of work to do before that can happen, IMO).

World No. 153 18-year-old Jared Donaldson beat No. 65 Mahut in the first round today! He'll play No. 52 Janowicz next! :clap

I'm betting one or both won't get there! You can forget about a Fedal rematch; been a while since the last! :nono  :dodgy: :cover
