He needs the points to stay ahead of Roger for the #2 ranking! I haven't checked of late, but it's less than 500 points I'm sure he needs to do better than the old man or he'll be relegated to #3 and possibly hitting Nole in the semi's of the USO! :nono :angel: :dodgy:

It is something to consider, though, given that his destiny in that regard is in his own hands. At the FO, Novak had Rafa, then Andy, then Stan. A rough old road. Technically, isn't it possible that Andy could enter Flushing Meadows at #2 and avoid all the big guns, facing only the minor ones? If he could take care of that here in Cinci, I think it'll be worth the effort.

Novak looks finally to have hit form on hards, after struggling in Montreal, and against Goffin. The Deathless One seems impervious to time and tide, so Andy might be too satisfied with Montreal to extend himself - but there's a good reason why he should...

Results in tennis depend on two players, not one. I watched the highlights btw and saw nothing amazing from Lopez. A few good points here and there for sure and he'll always score a few aces with his serve but nothing spectacular like you're making out. Far from it.

The thing that strikes me are that his shots are so short (shorts too!). It looks like he's trying so hard to get it deep and it ain't going.

He's been hitting short balls for years. All this talk of lack of confidence is getting old and I'm not naming you regarding this obviously He played tons of short balls against Soderling at RG 2009 also and it's one of the main reasons he lost. He just manages to get away with it most of the time. Not only are they hit way too short, but also often right in the middle of the court. Complete sitting ducks. This is why he's losing more and it's got more to do with this than all this talk of confidence issues.

So if Murray loses today is it true that Roger just needs to make the final for the #2 rank back? If Murray wins today than Roger has to win the tournament I think. I was at the Murray-Dimitrov match last night and Andy was fighting like someone who was well aware of how important that #2 seed at USO could be.

Ok EVERYBODY, I've never said that Rafa played wonderfull, I said that I've never seen Feli playing so well, serving, hitting, on the net, running , baseline, etc etc, he did everything well. I KNOW that if Rafa would have play his best he never would have lost that match but that awful tb was his end giving more strength and confidence to his opponent who was playing superb
IF he plays so well today he will beat Federer (who is not playing his best either) but I don't think he could be able to repeat it :nono or maybe yes?

If he played so incredible he would've won easier than a 3rd set tiebreak. He didn't play incredible at all. A few key points here and there decided the match. If you want to see incredible watch Federer against Anderson. Actually don't bother 'cos I see you've already determined Anderson was terrible eventhough anyone else would likely say Anderson wasn't given any chance to play all match. When one guy does that to the other, that's an example of a very high level of play. Not a 3rd set tiebreak win over a guy hitting short balls.
