And Nick does it in straights. Your boy Daniel Evans is up a set and a break on Alexander Zverev, the next big thing...who you got there?? And Ferrer just bageled Fognini in the first. Hard to think Fognini won't wake up at some point.

They haven't shown any of Zed here, so I don't know. Dimitrov/Chardy looking like they'll go the full stretch. Looks like a lot of matches will go late tonight. Good thing the restaurants and clubs stay open in NYC, eh?

Lorenzi up a break on Simon in the 5th...who knows? The Fog woke up and they are at a set a piece with Ferrer.

Maaybeee...if Dimitrov was half the talent he's meant to be, it wouldn't have gone 5, and I like Chardy. But at least he won. I'm reserving enthusiasm for Master Grigor and his short pants.

Johnson looks disheveled and Del Potro is in complete control. The fans are streaming to the exits.

Del Po was very impressive tonight. I know Ferrer is finally past his prime but I'm sure DP would prefer the bipolar Fog and so would I.

Hoping DP can make a deep run here and ideally if he would have a decent shot vs. Murray he'd have to get through the QF stage without too much trouble. With Ferrer, Thiem, and possibly Stanimal that may be a lot to ask.

Espn has boringly chosen to go to Donald Young v. Karlovic, even though it's at the beginning of the 3rd, and other matches are at critical junctures. BOO hiss. So Zverev just broke to win the 3rd over Evans and avoid going out, and the Fog broke Ferrer to go up in the 3rd, where they've split a set a piece. I have to think Fabio will prevail. Oh, and Lorenzi is serving for the match over Simon.

I think Fog will find a way to lose. Ferrer is just the type that will make him go extra crazy over the course of a long match. Given that and the fact Fog went a long 5 sets the other day I figured this would be easy for Daveeeed.

When they just told him on court he'd face either Ferrer or Fognini, he groaned and rolled his eyes. Neither is an easy prospect, and I'm not sure which he should wish for. If his wrist is feeling good, he will keep going. I think he could beat all 3 of those potential opponents.

All good points. I'm beginning to buy that Ferrer has reached his sell-by date, but you may be right. PS: Lorenzi had match points, but Simon got back on serve for 5-5. Now I think Simon wins.
