Novak gets Jerzy Janowicz in the opening round. Rafa has gets Istomin. Milos has DreddyTennis - Dustin Brown, I'll be rooting for Dustin in that one, entertainer par excellence. Monfils has a potentially tricky match with Gilles Muller.

Ferrer has Dolgo - a tough first round for the Spanish veteran. Ditto... Stan with Fernando Verdasco.

Feliciano Lopez won't be too happy drawing Borna Coric in round one.

Andy Murray gets Lukas Rosol.

Some interesting first rounders!

jerzy and lukas are so UNpredictable.

tehy REALLY have the game against any of the top players - but can't seem to put it togethr consistently.

these are two of the uncannily gifted players that are so big , powerful, with all the weapons and MOVE so well for their size --
but have a messy attic up there, lol.

Yeah, really interesting. Some of these matches could be a semi or a final of a ATP 250 tournament.

so TRUE!

we all know these are ''late'' years , relatively, for even the likes of NOLE AND ANDY at the top of their games - and nadal too - --

but it feels STRANGE not to see ROGER FEDERER. u know?
we've gotten so used to his being a top group contender -- it feels WEIRD not talking about HIS match-ups.

definitely they lumped them on NOLE. so here's where his legendary return of serve has to be on form!!! once the ball is in play -- it's HIS to lose.

As if that was one of the criteria to get them in his part of the draw.:lol3:

It seems to me that everything has to be on form for Nole from the start, Teddy!!! I wouldn't worry as much normally, but with the wrist issue, who knows how that'll go. Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.:yesyes:

I think if Novak gets to the semis, then he wins the whole thing.

Possibly. I don't remember the last time he failed to reach the semis since 2006. We'll se..

And BTW: who knows why New York is called Big Apple?

I will be day by day, match to match to get the idea who will be able to win this USO, meanwhile I'd rather not anticipated events. Of course I'd love to see Rafa in the final and if he get the "15" much better but right now I have not any idea who will win :)

^^^ Isn't he asked this at every tournament, and hasn't he answered the same way to the same questions? These reporters should get a bit innovative, IMO. LOL

One story is that jazz musicians started calling it that...the big place to get a gig.

it's based on the APPLE being associated with ''usa'' in its national mythologies. being that apple is one of the most abundant and easy to grow - part of the common diet, holidays...a healthy fruit ..

and in the mythologies one of the famous ''founding fathers" benjamin franklin was said to have made one of his scientific discoveries or ideas sitting under an apple tree and an apple fell on his head and he got an idea...that kind of thing...

so , since NYC is the most important financial center - it's called the BIG APPLE.

it's the same as when americans say something is 'AS american as apple pie" - meaning it's a GOOD american trait.

they always do something like that in USO . i don't know if any of you recall many years ago during roger's heights in the mid-2000's.

it actually got ''leaked' on new york times - and i read it myself before it DISAPPEARED a couple of hours later online - before the draws were publicly announced that opening sunday - and the times was to be delivered in the sunday edition.

maybe they lost control of it...but anyway...

the sports page showed the ''draw" - rememer - this was BEFORE hthat public drawing.

in it was a short article by a nyc sports writer - a woman (she probably got fired for that) ..

she managed to get into the conference office of the USTA new building the arthur ashe..and no one was there ...and on the table she photographed and published in her article a memo pad..with pencil scratched draws...

in its was the draw of roger federer...

and the first 3 rounds:

roger federer -- qualifier
roger federer -- qualifier
roger federer -- qualifier

apparently some online readers CAUGHT it onlineand made posts and comments...
then - it disappeared from online.

by hours later of that - the new ''final'' edition of the paper printed

federer - qualifier
federer -- qualifier

''just" 2 rounds instead of 3...

i mean if people review over the years -- that's been veryy noticeable in roger's draws. the first rounds ALWAYS tended to be far, far easier than anyone of the other top rivals in their own quarters - as if to make sure - he reached second week - fresh, well-practiced, with lots of gas left in the tank...

remember also that year they gave sampras probably one of the most fearsome draws you can ever see?

2001 -

he had to beat all in a row :
Patrick Rafter - 2001 wimbledon finalist and really resurgent
Andre Agassi - 2000,2001 Aussie Champ and number3?
Marat Safin - 2000 Defending Champ who beat pete the year before, world #2?

and had no gas left for Lleyton - 2000 Wimby champ and world number 1.

AND pete , due to rain delays - had to beat the last 3 in consecutive days, if i remember correctly.

lol.

Novak's Draw:

Probables

R1: Janowicz
R2: Vesely
R3: Klizan or Youhzny
R4: Isner or Gaquet
QF: Cilic or Tsonga or maybe Sock
SF: Rafa or Monfils or Raonic
F: Murray or anyone else from the bottom half of the draw

Vesely might be interesting as he's already beaten Djoker this year... I don't see anyone else causing problems until the QF. An in-form Cilic might be a threat and then he might meet Rafa in the semis.
