Good last couple of games after a few really bad ones. The only patch of bad play so far. I will definitely take that

Lopez has finally decided a new approach on the serve will be better. Day late and a dollar short.

Awesome game to finish it. Definitely a surprise today after the first two rounds. We can hope it will remain that way...

Well I don't think he has to be any sharper than that. Playing like that he isn't losing but you have two terrible matches and one great one. I don't think we should expect smooth sailing. And even though everyone is going to say the back is 100% fine after this match I still doubt that's the case.

Except for that minor hick up in the third set, it was a good match. Even in the third set, I am glad he finished it off without letting it go to a TB. Now, let us hope that the back remains fine for another 10 days at least.

Definitely breathing a sigh of relief because 2 days ago I said he continued to play that crappy he'd lose to Feli Lopez. Glad to be wrong on both scores. It's his best match yet and unless Kohlschreiber suddenly grew 4" and starts serving bombs and clocking forehands - the 4th round should be another routine-ish match.

The other good news is that Nadal is struggling with his game - apparently for no reason other than the fact that he's playing on hard courts. :lulz2: Good gravy. He blew - what was was 14 or 15 straight break points against Leonaro Frickin' Mayer? That was almost as bad as some of the return matches Roger's had against him. Difference is - Leornardo Mayer ain't Nadal.

The semis is looking very doable for Roger - and Nadal, too, for that matter. Although...I'm kinda picking Rublev for that quarter. Let's see what the kid has left when he plays Goffin in 2 days..

Although I am happy, I would not look too far ahead, especially as we don't know whether back being good is for good or varies on a day to day basis.. Roger should win against Kohly considering the 11-0 H2H and also the fact that Kohly is not exactly lighting up the fire recently.

The QF on the other hand would be much tougher than that, but should still winnable if Fed is healthy. Thiem is basically a clay courter and does not do too well on hard courts and can be rushed to commit errors. JMDP, assuming he has only slice backhand, is beatable too.

The Bull vs. Dog match could be interesting. Bull likes rhythm and Dog gives no rhythm. But, for each cleaver shot that Dog comes up with, it also makes about 3 UFEs and Bull is very good at extracting errors from opps on top of that. I think bull will win at the end barring miracles. But, the match will be interesting.

I see it the other way..here's why.. Rafa's entire game is built around playing high percentages and low unforced errors..the Dog

i see it the other way..here's why...Rafa's entire game is built around playing high percentage tennis and low UFEs..whereas the Dogs game is entirely high risk, first strike at times but as you noted, tons of UFEs...this is the match Rafa tunes his game for the later rounds..

I don't think it will be close..I expect Rafa's aggressive play will blow the doors off the Dog..I,expect he will show the form he displayed when he beat Coric a few weeks ago.

Roger's looked much better today. The winner-UE differential was +16 which was good enough for me. Barring the low 1st serve percent in 2nd set, I liked his game today. I am not too worried at the moment. He has picked his game up like he had promised. And, I think he should get better. Even I doubt that his injury has totally waned off though. At times, he looked to be in little discomfort or something. Let's hope back is repaired in the next 2 matches.

P.S.: It would be a bummer if the only time Roger ran into Rafa at USO would be with a bad back. Yuck.

I hope he will be healthy.

I did not say it will be close. I just said it will be interesting due to contrasting styles of play.
