Tennis players (or maybe just tennis fans?) seem to bitch about everything...Balls too light, balls to heavy, "homogenized" surfaces, crowd noise, roof closed conditions vs. roof open conditions, ad nauseum. In what other major sport must conditions be so perfect/ideal?
Truth be told, the NFL are prickly too. They whine about natural grass, artificial grass, turf, wind conditions in certain arenas, the balls, etc...

@Moxie, haven't seen Nadal, just the highlights (15 mins) -- which gave me the impression he played quite well, but folks here where not that impressed.

Federer started quite bad, Tiafoe was playing just fine, and it slowly started turning around. Now Federer is playing almost normal, and Tiafoe disappeared.

Different kind of sound though. It's just constant echoes of thousands of people whispering.
Tell that to NFL teams that play in Seattle and Kansas City, neither of which play in domes.

Because it's a nation team and when they play in their own country of course the crowd are cheering for their team giving them more support. Here who knows why the crowd is making so much noise :dance3:

Tiafoe, with his extreme grips and huge backswings is definitely going to be very vulnerable to rushing.
Roger has got the timing now. Moving better, hitting better.
Maybe there is something to be said about playing in a new environment for the first time...

Regardless of setting, noise is noise.

And crowd noise clearly affects road teams on offense in the NFL and they are used to it. If you're a pro tennis player you aren't used to hearing so much noise during points.

I like the kid and he has potential but it is those huge swings and lack of footwork that could keep him from doing much.

Backhand starting to misfire again. Hope he gets a quick break and takes the air out of the Tiafoe sails.

It's very difficult to be impressed of your favorite player unless both opponents are playing very good and the match is very competitive

This is the usual pattern, though, for Tiafoe...blow it out in the first and then momentum and belief? I only watched the scores on Rafa. He lost serve early in the first, then won in straights, with Lajovic diminishing. All textbook, right?

Sometimes...but other times when you see your player start really bad but gradually get better and find solutions, that is OK too...especially in early rounds. Pro tennis is tough. Even a guy ranked way lower than you can run away with it unless you figure it out.

Just when you think Fed righted the ship, there is a hole in the bottom again!

Agreed but even that sometimes their fans are not enough impressed, the poor players have to play perfect from the beginning otherwise always there is "but...."
