I don't think that Murray sabotaged the USO or even ruined it. I'm sure you can read, if you care to, so I won't repeat my points. I know you mis-typed, but by waiting until Saturday to withdraw, I think that Murray came to a not entirely surprising decision 36-48 hours too late for what would have been better for all concerned. That said, it'll still be fun.

I think Fabio has a solid shot at getting to Rafa, but I don't think he'll take him out. This isn't 2015. But Fognini does seem sturdier to me than in the past.

The same that Robredo had a crack at Roger? I remember the fireworks at USO by Tommy sometime ego....
Just that you said Murray decided on Thursday, which would have made the difference, as opposed to deciding on Sat. I've said myself that Murray's obligation is to himself and his career. And I'm tired of going around about it. In the end, it won't matter much, most likely. Though, if Rafa and Roger should beat each other up in a SF and Cilic or Zverev should snag it by default, people are going to give the sad face. Not sure where I mis-typed...But why should Murray care about what you have considered to have been "better for all concerned"? What does that mean?
Yes, just 24-ish hours after the draw came out. That's where the crabbiness comes from. And he would have seen that he'd been handed a softball draw, and still wasn't deemed able to play. If he couldn't play that draw, the argument goes, then he would have known on Thursday that he wasn't fit. See my point? You are correct, Moxie. I did mis-type/mis-read that Murray withdrew on Thursday. I'm sorry! He withdrew on Saturday?

I don't think he was gaming anything. That's why I think it's surprising that he waited so long. If he were waiting to see the draw, he couldn't have been offered a better one. I'm sure he just hoped he could play. I don't see anything nefarious or self-interested. I just wish he could have come to his decision a few hours early so that the draw could have been properly balanced. But it is what it is.I do see your point. I do, however, still stand behind my opinion that anyone can withdraw whenever they feel the need to do so. Again...I don't like Murray (as a tennis player), but I don't think he'd stoop to the level of withdrawing just to save some points. I wish I were a good enough tennis player to be in that position. I did mis-type/misinterpret, though...and I apologize.
I agree...Regardless of motive, or lack of motive, it is what it is. I hope that this year's US Open is a good one!I don't think he was gaming anything. I vaguely remember watching that match, What'd it go? 4 sets?
In that point I agree with you. First I don't see so big deal with Muzz withdrawn, he probably felt well until he started to feel some pain but unfortunately after the draw was done. And same with Roger-Rafa match-up and not because I expect a win by Roger but because I hope to watch a very different Nadal than these last tournaments, to see him in the final and to win it doesn't matter against how, Roger or Perico el de los Palotes

So not really the same thing at all, if it was before the draw, right?I think Murray did the same thing a few years ago; dropped out of the FO just before it began, but it was in time for draw to be redone moving Djokovic in the draw to playing Rafa in the SF instead of Final!![]()

Nadal is gracious and he's no fool. I believe that Roger has been quoted similarly on occasion. Who wouldn't prefer an easier path?Nadal isn't anywhere near as confident as you are and says he'd rather not play Roger.
"If I get to semifinals, not ... Sounds very good, but the real thing, I prefer to play against another player, an easier one if it's possible," said Nadal with a smile. "I know you want to hear the other way, that I would love to play with him."

Yes, but didn't you already give us 12 emoticons about all the other top players who are missing this Open? Not quite the same as dropping out at the 11th hour.Just saying it caused a commotion; either way in time or not, having a top player missing causes drama!![]()

Rafa would say that he is nervous about playing you. He would say, Front is a player who works out very hard to get his muscles, he is very opinionated and really want to be correct about what he feels..it will be a match against a player who will be trying to win and that makes it a very difficult match to prepare for. I will do my best , thank you very much.Nadal isn't anywhere near as confident as you are and says he'd rather not play Roger.
