Pete used to hobble around the court when he was under pressure, the old wounded bear act, until it got to 4-4, then blam! He'd strike, break, then hold to love. Players fell for it every time. Murray fell for it with Novak a couple years ago in the Oz final, he's up 2-0 in the third, Novak looks like death warmed up - Andy won only one more game.
It's a good act, and a fair one.
But even withstanding all this, he's better than Stan, in better form, and he's alert to Stan's danger to him.
Only problem for Novak is a serious lack of matchplay. Beating JJ, the Brit #4, and Monfils, doesn't add up to "matchplay..."
If he is playing well, Stan is simply one of the more difficult matchups for Novak. Stan has a very good 2nd serve, so Novak has a tougher time dictating off the return than against most other opponents and is one of the few players who can hold his own from the baseline once a rally is neutralized.Riotbeard said:Kieran said:It should be Novak. I feel like over the last three years, this has been the story before every stan-novak match up and they are almost always super close, highly competitive affairs.
I picked Novak and five, but Stan can beat Novak, even if he is playing well.
