Very interested to know what Neil Harman's "fascinating pre-tournament twist in the story of the men's singles at this year's US Open" will turn out to be. Some clowns saying Federer is playing lol. Others saying Djokovic is going to withdraw or busted for doping. Read some of the comments below lol. Anyway, who knows what this "fascinating twist" will actually turn out to be. There's also speculation Becker has left the Djokovic camp on other tennis forums.

Federer's appears to be practicing in his boxers :cover

This was from the 22nd. Practicing his serve.

Strange.. if that knee is tender or injured.. I am surprised that he is serving this soon since he is out for the rest of the year.. Something isn't adding up about this

By using the word "fascinating" it is most likely not something really negative--so I doubt anyone is being busted for doping or withdrawing.

That's worst if its not stable..I would think that he would just be rehabbing the knee with weights and flexibility stretching not putting pressure on it. However, I am no physio or whatever

Looking at the draw: Djokovic, Murray, Cilic, and Raonic should all able to reach the Quarterfinals if they play to their abilities. As for Nadal, he should also reach the Quarterfinals but after what has happened in the last few months, I have low expectations for him in this tournament.

The most interesting and wildest draw is the Wawrinka's quarter. I mean anyone could come out of that quarter.

I would say the biggest winner in the draw is Murray. The reason I say this is because he does not have Cilic, Raonic, and Nadal in his half of the draw. The players in his half (Wawrinka, Nishikori, and Thiem) are inconsistent so there is a good chance they might not make it to the quarterfinals. So if Murray plays within himself and maintain his focus like he did in Wimbledon and Olympics, he should at least reach his 4th Slam final of the season.

I like JMDP's draw and glad draw gods had some mercy on him.

To begin with, he did not fall in the quarter headed by other members of Big Four - Minus One.
Nole, Rafa and Andy are all in different quarters. So, it is quite conceivable that JMDP could end up being the winner of his quarter, at least.

He opens against Diego-Shortman and JMDP being a tallman should have no problem against him. Next up is Steven Johnson, a winnable match. In the third round he has to play one of the head cases of Dog or Fog or a rapidly declining Ferru. Either way, it looks like he can make it to R16. His projected opponent in R16 is Thiem who has already played 200 matches this year and so will be a complete contrast in freshness as Delpo has barely played 20 matches. I really doubt that Stan will be waiting for him across the net considering his inconsistencies and so QF opponent might be an easy one for JMDP.

Go Delpo! :plot

p.s. Also, unlike in Olympics, he will be getting a day's rest after each match and so should be able to keep fighting as long as he can keep his early matches short and win in straight sets.
Yep, the best of five set stamina may be his biggest obstacle in that easy quarter he is in.
Also Del Po not having his two handle backhand less than % will get expose during a grand slam. Trying to runaround his backhand for best of five is not so easy.

The irony in Murray's comment is hilarious as so many tennis fans can't stand him more than Rosol lol. :cover

I assume that the general consensus is that Novak is more vulnerable to get upset somewhere along the way (than Andy) and that if both indeed manage to reach the final, then Novak will win. I too subscribe to this theory.
I think if Novak reaches the semi final looking somewhat convincing he will definitely be the favourite for the title. But his road to get there is potentially very tricky if his wrist affects him as he might only meet left handers (Vesely, Klizan) who could have an easier time exploiting his backhand if it is below par and big servers (Janowicz, Isner, Cilic/Tsonga).

Both Raonic and Nadal have been quite comfortable matchups for Novak recently and he would probably have had some match practice against left handers or big servers if he reaches the semis so he would be expected to win if he is at a solid level and should also be the favourite against the finalist from the bottom half afterwards.

Currently, there isn't any part of Rafa's game that can trouble Novak, IMO.

Not in the least! He hasn't even lost a set in a couple years IIRC; massacres like Qatar are relished by Nole!

The Rome 2016 final was pretty close. 7-5 7-6(4) to Djokovic. In best of 5 though it'll be tough for Nadal to beat Novak unless he's truly physically impaired which I don't think he is.

Watching the tape now and Nole won 3 straight games to get back into the 1st set with Rafa up a break!
