^ They've only released the schedule for Ashe & Armstrong. I'll update it when they release the rest.

To me the match of this round is Bouchard v Makarova

Bouchard has been gritting out wins so far in this tournament,I feel Makarova is playing on a much higher level.Makarova is highly underrated, her form since Wimbledon, where she upset Radwanska to reach the q/finals has been excellent.Makarova has reached the s/finals of DC and Montreal, defeating Kvitova in the latter.

If Bouchard dosent raise her game,I have no doubt that Makarova can make back to back q/finals at the USO.

Makarova in 3 sets.

Hopefully, Serena keeps the focus! She is almost there.

At this point, it's her tournament to lose. If you look at the list of names still in the draw, there isn't anyone who should beat her, including Wozniacki.

I don't know Woz has taken her to 3 tight sets the last two times they played, but given money I would still put down on Serena. We will see as we all know it has been the ones not in the top 10 beating her this year.

Yeah, it has been a bizarre, unpredictable year which is why I purposely used the word "should" ("... there isn't anyone who should beat her ..."), and not "could".

I guess I'm thinking of it this way: Now that she has made it this deep, she's beyond the stage where she would lose early to some random player, therefore she'll make the final. Put Serena in a GS final, and there are few who have ever beaten her, and none of them are here.

Does that make sense?

It's normally the no name people that upset Serena. No?
Kaia Kanepi is not much of a name.
4 rounds to be played when Serena is concerned, lets not jump the gun.

^ Actually, I get both sides of that debate about Serena. She does tend to lose earlier and by upset then late and to name players. We're right at the edge of that. However, I'd love to see Caroline win this one, now that she's learning to be more aggressive, so I'm hoping for the rarer late-upset.

Also @Kiu: Thanks for pointing out that Bellis was playing in Jrs…I didn't even know you could do that.

CC took the first set easily 6-1, ahead 4-3 in the second and serving.

In a see-saw battle Flavia takes the first set 7-5

If she wins today's match that is already a major achievement for Serena in this
year's GSs. :snigger.

Not only that but CiCi is ranked #1 in Juniors. What would happen if she went further in the big leagues? Play both?

This is not the first time a junior is also playing in the main event. If by chance, one
progresses further in the main event, they have to play every day and on some days
twice as well. As the chances of that happening are small, they don't worry about it.

She got Grandstand assignment because of her performance in the MD.

CC advanced to round 2

Flavia was the first to advance to quarters in day 8
This is a banner year for Flavia on hard courts.
Flavia awaits the winner of the next match, Serena vs. Kaia.

Isn't Kanepi a dangerous choker? Serena can't let her guard down. The title is hers if she focuses and avoids injury.
