Good day all!

The men's singles 1st round completed on schedule despite concerns by many that it would not.

The first round has seen its share of upsets this year - 10.
Here is a roundup of the seeded upsets.

[11] Kei Nishikori - Looked flat, says he wasn't injured, just didn't play well

[14] Jerzy Janowicz - injury to back - took MTO, not much help. 1st serve avg. only 109 mph, 2nd - 90. Compare this to match vs. Murray at Wimbledon - 1st serve avg. - 128, 2nd - 108, probably could have retired, but toughed it out - was just rolling serves in, some serves only 75 mph. His groundstrokes were also affected as he could not rotate properly.

[15] Nicolas Almagro - Istomin played better - only 2 UE's for match - extended his H2H to 3-0, 1 on each surface

[16] Fabio Fognini - destroyed by the American, Rajeev Ram - 1, 2, and 2. Didn't watch.

[24] Benoit Paire - Up and down match - very tight - Bogolomov, Jr. snatched it 7-5 in the decider tiebreak. Paire served for the match in the 5th up 5-4, 30-0, but couldn't hold to win. He said his back was in a lot of pain during the match and would have probably withdrawn the next match anyway.

[25] Grigor Dimitrov - didn't watch.

[27] Fernando Verdasco - down 2 sets early, came back, but outplayed in decider

[28] Juan Monaco - retired with headache, stomach pains

[29] Jurgen Melzer - predictable loss after winning the title at Winston-Salem on Saturday.

Here are my picks for four possible upsets.

1. Tipsy 2. Kevin 3. Youzhny 4. Seppi.

Isner vs. Monfils could go either way. Most probably goes to 5th set TB with
John winning.

Can you add a weather forecast section to your every day schedule?

I think that would be more work than it's worth, esp. as it's so changeable, and which one to use? We checked the weather before we went yesterday, and there was only about 20% chance of rain all afternoon, and instead we got a near total rain out. You can go to weather.com, and put in Billie Jean Tennis Center. They offer an hourly forecast, which is about as good as you'll get. Also, weather.noaa.gov, which is the National Weather Service.

Berlocq put 97% first serves into play in the first set. guess "put it in play" is all you can say about it, though, as it didn't do him any good.

Federer looks great. I think that Nadal match really snapped him out of his funk. At the least he seems like the "one" of "Big Three + One," and maybe even better than that.

He thrives here. It is much easier to be relaxed in a place where you have had massive success....

He has only lost once here before the semis since 2004. I think a Rafa Roger quarter will be bigger than the 2001 Agassi Sampras match.

rogers forehand looked pretty sharp, his serve was ok..but he wasn't tested by his noisy opponent..

Lleyton is a known warrior; he will not give anything for free. However,
Llyeton is banged up and so I pick Delpo in 3 or 4 (but not 5).
