Although genie breaks and has good chance, she plays bad tennis. A shadow of herself. I called this match "horror show" because both players are in a serious crises. Genie must find her lost self belief asap.
As for Sorana, I gave up long ago.. :(

One more break and we will have break-fest.

I wouldn't be surprised if it came, the nerves have been super high.

Don't make me hungry. Almost 4:40am so breakfast sounds appealing :D

The wind is a killer out there but they're playing well considering how blustery it is out there. Annoys me though how windy it can get at the USO :s Makes a lot of matches unwatchable.

Great hold. Well played. Wonder if Bouchard will get nervous now. Quite possible a break is coming.

Just heard the Pam interview and honestly it sounded like an evil conspiracy! :puzzled
How can that be? Its just a simple interview?... well...
she started telling how amazing genie was in last year and kept genie's back and made her look like a "super blonde power", and THEN.. she mentions ONLY at the end that genie is in a crises since Wimby and needed a good result.
I mean common... stop being so cynical and targeted when you interview. Stop twisting reality, stop selling stupid dreams... just let people be ffs! Genie herself deserves better. She is not in a movie. Its real life ffs.
The US media has totally lost the plot. It uses people as a robots. Thats dirty, thats evil.
Isnt Pam human herself? Why is she making a robot out of Genie?... American TV is so stupid. They dont get the problem. Just keep it simple and human, ENOUGH WITH THE FAKE!...

Thats all

Genie was just a little better, it was tight, I thought is was pretty good level of play from both players.
For the match, Genie hit 29 winners and 33 UE--Sorana hit 21 winners and 26 UE
I say it was those untimely doubles that hurt Sorana most, she took her chances with the second serve.
Genie broke more and scored more.

Great win for Genie, confidence builder for sure and now battle tested.

Naturally, I am happy to see Eugenie get through to the 3rd round. Overall, maybe not her best tennis that I have witnessed, but let's get the facts straight, at 20 she can only gain in confidence, to say she is shadow of herself, is quite absurd. As for Sorana, I think that was one of the best matches I have seen her play since last year, at the Rogers Cup. Hopefully, she can go forward and build on this match. Certainly, some of her serves had good velocity on them, she has the weapons, just needs to get her mental game in tune with her physical game.

If you watched the behaviour of the two players in the past, you could tell who wins the match.
It was a safe bet, based on their characters in the past. I am no genius, just based my thoughts on their past behaviour.
Sorana is a serial choker. She never won anything under pressure. She wins only when things go her way, not when things are balanced or go against her. Its a shame, she is a nice smart girl, but thats life.

For the day, Serena had the best score, only allowing one game.

Day 4 is now done, second round completed.
32 ladies remaining.

I like your positive attitude but reality tells its own story.
Genie suffered embarrassing defeats since Wimbeldon and has not reached any SF or F in any HC tournament. Thats a fact. Her name is absent from all major events. She is top 10 now. The worse was her lost at home in R1. She was supposed to WIN THE EVENT!
The old Genie would have finished the match today in 2 easy sets. OTHERS have done that easily this year against Sorana. Sorana loses first rounds on regular bases in 2014. These are all facts.
If you choose to see the "quarter full cup" then its your choice. :)
The absurd in my post was that I didnt say that she is "a BIG shadow of herself"... I was polite.
The good news are that Genie just needs self belief, she has most of all the things needed to be world class player already. I am not exactly an emotional fan of hers, but I respect her quality as a player.

Could someone pls tell me when are they going to stop talking about how bad Serena's last 3 slams were? It so damn annoying every time she steps on the court the story is the same. It's like they are obsess with or something the crap over and over again.

Well they have to hop on a rising star before the egg has hatched. It's what they do. Sometimes, they end up w/ egg on their face though (Oudin, Sloane, Vaidisova). The vote is still out on Genie. She still has time this year to get back on the wagon.

Vadisova was not overhyped, she made semi's in couple of slams, top ten. She was the real deal. She just lost interest in tennis once she got involved with Stepanek and I believe she had injuries.

Then we'll agree to disagree. Anyone who is the "real deal" would not walk away from the sport in their early 20's before they accomplish anything. Especially not to follow their husband around on tour. Sorry, but she doesn't have the heart and mentality of a champion to me.

Maybe because she is the number one player in the world has something to do with it, and she is chasing history.

It's nothing new, Serena is not the first player whom has had the constant commentary on a lack of a slam when expectations are high. Federer, McEnroe, Evert, Navratilova, Graf and Seles have had the same thing happen when they stepped on the court, and the fact Serena has not won a slam this year is a HUGE story, and for tennis interest story, it should be repeated.

Well. We are in the middle of a slam so what else can they talk about regarding her? She's the world number 1 and she hasn't done well in the slams this year. This is the last slam. She wins this and then they'll be talking about her tying Chris & Martina. All this chatter comes w/ the territory of being #1. You should be used to this by now.
