One of the reasons I cant see Venus making it through is,she is playing doubles also in this tournament

With her present condition,I am not using that as a excuse, still it is a factor,I dont know if she can go deep in the singles tournament.I know she has been playing solid tenns of late, still I have a question mark on her.

Exactly. I know she and her sister have a long, highly successful history of playing doubles, but they need to reassess this. They're in their thirties now, and Venus has a chronic medical condition. It will be hard, but they need to stop playing doubles, IMO.

I've wondered lately if part of the problem is neither one knows how to say it to the other, but they're both thinking it? Just a guess ...

^ I guess if they have spoken about it,we would not be privy to it.I really think they have to start prioritizing their individual goals in their respective tennis careers. As you pointed out age is factor, along with Venus medical condition.

I agree whole-heartedly. They should stop playing doubles, which only serves to drain their energy and increases the risk of injury. Serena is chasing history. One little tweak and she could miss another opportunity to win that elusive 18th major.

Am I the only one here thinking that the sisters just play doubles for fun because they enjoy it?
If it gets too hard they just lose.. ;) no big deal for them. They do it cause they like it. Not for the fame and glory.

Si Si, you sure have your own unique way of describing your thoughts on tennis. Some I agree on, some make me shake my head and some are laughable. Nevertheless, it does create some thought provoking commentary. As for the Williams just playing doubles for the fun of it, how on earth do you know that? Why would they waste their valuable time and possible injury if they just said, "let's play doubles only to have fun?" I don't think so, it is not in the Williams makeup to be so coy.

In my opinion all tennis players play for either their own glory or money be it in singles or doubles. Frankly if they were not paid so much, the tour probably wouldn't look like this at all. Yeah they love tennis, of course, but that is not the reason most play professionally.

I don't know, I mean I get why they play doubles, but they need to reassess where their doubles game is at as they haven't made an impact in doubles since 2012. I think they should have just focused on singles here, and then come back with a game plan for 2015.

Only for fun imo. They have to prove nothing and won everything already. Its not a challenge for them.
They just have fun while it lasts.

I think doubles sharpens their games, they are able to practice on volleys, serve, timing and groundstrokes..keeps them alert

While doubs does help their singles, that's not why they play. They love to play together and they're competitive so it's all about winning because losing doesn't sit well. I think you'll see them continue to play as long as they're both on the tour despite the extra time and energy it costs them.
