The other seed that lost today was Magdalena Rybarikova, she was seeded 29

How about Laura Robson, she is seeded 30

Barty the young Aussie just won her match and moved to 2nd round.

Sloane is playing the 3rd set against Mandy, she already has 45 UE against 25 winners, playing down to the level of her opponent again.

you are still supporting that one...:snigger

I don't like Sloane's game at all. She does not seem to have a weapon of choice
and also she does not seem to have much of a plan. Even when she wins, it almost
always feels as though she won becuase one of the two has to win.

I would rather prefer Alison Riske's aggressive game. She almost took out Aga in
Wimby and played very nicely.

She got the win but it was ugly.
55 UE against 38 winners for Sloane.
37 UE against 15 winners for Mandy.
Sloane is lucky she pulled that one out, tie breakers can go either way.

Very excellent points GSAM.. GSAM.. your signature is accurate, Sloane didn't just win, Minella just lost it. To be honest the poor Russian player simply choked more than Sloane won the match. It will catch up with Sloane against Ursula if Sloane doesn't improve on her footwork and lack of a plan to be executed. Her coach should be blasting Sloane and have her ass back on the practice court immediately or she will be watching the Open as a spectator or a television viewer like the rest of us.

Sloane won in spite of her tennis play. If Minella (from Luxenbourg, not Russia) played just a little better, Sloane would have been gone in the first round. She played poorly and showed her lack of form (not moving her feet etc.).

Ugh. Venus' outfit reminded me of 1950's wallpaper and/or drapes.

Best match I've watched Serena play since the French Open. And, did you notice, she was going to let Francesca shake the chairs hand first?

I'm sorry that Frankie couldn't make a better show of it, but Serena was fierce, and not fooling around. (PS: I know some don't like the hair, but I do, and I think she's looking very glamorous.)

A few things I will say about Serena if she hopes to win the US Open:

1. You better nail that first serve which is barely above the 100s at times because that second serve is being struck in the low 80s even some 70s. Schiavone didn't make you pay, but some of your later opponents will make you pay for those second serves.

2. If your serve is not where you want it mph wise, you better place every serve you hit well.

3. You better strike the day lights out of every return and keep the error count down.

4. Girl who are you kidding, doubles really? Don't think it is going to happen, and if it does, then you really didn't learn anything from Australia.

Why are you such a "debbie downer?"

She played consistent forceful tennis, you didn't have many error and doubles has always helped her singles tennis in slams. It was not the cause of her loss in Australia, that fall in her first match was the major contributor.

Not all tennis is gonna be perfect and pretty, sometimes you win ugly, but, there was nothing ugly about her play tonight.

For the opponent she played, she did not need to bring out the cannons. Her ground strokes were powerful and accurate, why risk possible arm fatigue by trying to hit serves with high mphs if they are not needed?

Glad we wont have to listen to Schiavone's dreadful grunting anymore in this tournament. Serena played as forceful as she had to, again saving the heavy ammunition for later "rounds" Glad Eugenie got through, she really had to deal with some heavy serves from Pliskova. Sloane really was fortunate to defeat Minella, who really could have won the match, if she had a little more finesse and smarts.

My sarcasm detector is malfunctioning and so I am not going to jump about the underlined remark.
In case you are not sarcastic, you misinterpreted the meaning of my signature completely.:snigger
