Madison Keys vs. Jelena Jankovic (third match, Grandstand): Nineteen American women are in the main draw, the most at any Slam since 2006. Sloane Stephens shouldn’t have any problems with 110th-ranked Mandy Minella of Luxembourg (third match, Louis Armstrong Stadium), but it’s a much tougher task for 18-year-old Keys, who takes on former No. 1 and 11th-ranked Jankovic. Jankovic’s form can be up and down, but she’s coming off a confidence-boosting run to the Cincinnati semifinals, where she beat Stephens along the way. Keys, on the other hand, was forced to pull out of two summer tournaments due to a shoulder injury.

Winners so far today:
Aga comes through 6-1 6-2
Robson does the same 7-5 6-0
Li in straights 6-2 6-2
Suarez-Navarro in a double bagel 6-0 6-0
Coco in straights 6-4 7-6
Kanepi needed 3 4-6 7-6 6-1
Garcia in straights 6-3 6-2
USA waves goodbye to 3 Americans already: King, Davis & Rogers

Venus looked very sharp in the first set 6-1 over Flipkens. Can she hold it together or will she have a repeat performance from Cinci against Flipkens?

Venus Flips Kirsten right out of the facilities 6-1 6-2. By the way, I like Venus' dress. Very original w/ the floral print.

Yeah Venus won. My daughter loved her hair and her dress. I am glad that she was able to exact her own "revenge" on Flipkens ( whom I love also). Nice job Venus, keep up for as long as you can.

dont really care for the new crop of American players...just underwhelmed.I guess the sisters spoiled us a lot and these new players always look like a B team to me.Sloane is not someone I will pay to see if she comes to play in my town :nono .I am excited by Halep..thats a clearly talented player and has no hype surrounding her.I LIKE Townsend because she is a very talented...

The other seed that lost today was Magdalena Rybarikova, she was seeded 29

How about Laura Robson, she is seeded 30

Barty the young Aussie just won her match and moved to 2nd round.

Sloane is playing the 3rd set against Mandy, she already has 45 UE against 25 winners, playing down to the level of her opponent again.
