tbh all espn cares about is NFL and NBA. worldwide sports coverage my a$$.

They play other sports and feature them like baseball & soccer, but you couldn't pay me to watch it! There's been a realignment in the leagues and I couldn't tell you who moved if you put a gun to my head! :cover :puzzled :nono  :dodgy:

Paire to serve for the match. Man, I hope he can do it!

Wow, first big upset. I had a feeling that Paire was going to surprise - he's definitely an underrated, and underachieving, talent.

and Nishi is gone. Will lose a boatload of points

1200 to be exact. But he's still holding steady at #5. Assuming Berdych advances a few rounds, he'll fall to be #6 by tournament's end but shouldn't drop further unless Rafa or Ferrer win it.

And he does it. Well done, Benoit.

I liked his chances in this match as soon as I saw the draw. No telling what condition Kei would be in coming into the Open, and Benoit looks to have righted his ship over the past few weeks.

Incidentally, here is my "Wildcard" pick from our Slam Challenge Game:
WC: Paire

And I think I was one of only two not to put Kei into the semifinals - I did not use him at all.

I think we're getting 2 headline worthy upsets today. Rafa, Kei, Venus, Jelena and Ana better be on heightened alert.

We got our two - Ana and Kei. I wonder if that means everyone else is safe

I can't see Guido Pella pulling off an upset of the necessary type magnitude, but just curious - when is the last time both the winner and other finalist of a Slam were defeated on the first day/opening round the following year?

Sad to see Tommy go out so easily but it was clear after dropping serve at 3-3 in set 4 it was all over.

More a shame that Kei went out like that; had MP's too in the 4th! WHAT? :cover :puzzled :nono  :dodgy: :eyepop

He's young and depending on his health will have many more chances but this could well have been Tommy's last US Open and losing to Verdasco of all people who is in bad form too and didn't even play that well.
