Wow, first big upset. I had a feeling that Paire was going to surprise - he's definitely an underrated, and underachieving, talent.

1200 to be exact. But he's still holding steady at #5. Assuming Berdych advances a few rounds, he'll fall to be #6 by tournament's end but shouldn't drop further unless Rafa or Ferrer win it.

I liked his chances in this match as soon as I saw the draw. No telling what condition Kei would be in coming into the Open, and Benoit looks to have righted his ship over the past few weeks.

He's young and depending on his health will have many more chances but this could well have been Tommy's last US Open and losing to Verdasco of all people who is in bad form too and didn't even play that well.
