I have a bad feeling about tonight's blockbuster. These 2 haven't played since the final in USO16. Novak is due to revenge that loss, but Stan has nothing to lose once again and we all know how he can play then. Good thing they are not meeting in the final.
Bad feeling about what? No good match or the Laus winning?

Stan hasn't been the same since his knee surgeries but he's been pretty good this tournament. So we have a 34 year old 3 time slam winner trying to make a statement after many have written him off playing a slightly wounded duck in less than great form by his standards. Stan's gotta smell blood and Novak knows that and the physicality needed to win today will end up weakening him up for the next rounds even if he wins. Tough one. A lot of course depends on whether Stan plays to potential or comes in a bit flat. If he plays well, he could overpower Novak, especially if he targets his backhand as he's been slicing a lot. Gonna go with Stan overpowering him. Won't be able to watch as it's on at 1:15 am here but have a hunch I'll wake up to see Stan has won.
Agree with most of it. When the stanislas plays good Novak will lose important energy, difficult matches in front.
But I coudnt see this version of the fake Swiss winning. Hopefully Novak could raise his level, that’s enough.

Personally, I thought that was hilarious, especially of ESPN to hold his feet to the fire and make him own it. To his credit, he did. What was going to do? He had to be gracious.
Well, he didn't have any more options

I would like to see that too but I do not see it happening. In fact I have not seen the Stanimal since before the surgery, not even close. I see one tight set, two easy sets for Nole. Assuming his arm issues are behind him.

Why is Medvedev asking for trouble? His pissy ego will come back to bite him in the ass. He seems to be throwing it up to Kyrgios as to who can be the Bad Boy of tennis. Right now, Medvedev has the mantle.

Interesting that both Tsitsipas in 1R and Medvedev 3R told their umpires the exact same thing “You’re All Weirdos”

Forget the total H2H between these two. Since 2014 beginning (when Stan beat Nole at AO), the H2H is 4-4. So, it is fairly even. Assuming Novak has shoulder issues and Stan is not full back to staminal mode, again it is even. So, should be a good match.

If Novaks issues are gone, Stan probably won't have much chance. In that case, let us hope he will at least soften up Nole for Med to beat up.

Tactically how is Wawrinka able to trouble Djokovic, considering how imposing Djokovic's game is? I can not find an explanation. Some people say it is Wawrinka's power, but I am not sure if it is the major reason.

Yes power is a factor, but the main thing is whether one can hang with Novak on extended rallies. If you cannot, you are toast even if you are powerful player. Stan can hang with Novak and pull the trigger with power at the right time.

Three straight aces against Djokovic is not something you see often.

I tend to believe it is the main reason. Power changes everything. Nole cannot dominate the rallies or change the direction of the ball as he usually can against a good Stan. Take away Stan's power, what is he left with really? He does not have an extreme spin or anything that would bother Nole. He hits a very heavy ball and it takes Nole out of his comfort zone, in my opinion.
