Main problem is Roger's forehand is trash. Kind of holding my breath every time he's trying to hit big off it.

We have been spoiled by that shot for over a decade. It was automatic. Now, it is a confidence shot. Sad reality.

His chances on this surface are slim. I think any average player that can show some fight will eliminate him. However, if he can advance to the later rounds, he could get some help. Wawrinka is still in the draw!!

I just think he will mentally fold from a winning position before the SF, that's my guess. In a way losing a bad first set here and recovering (if he does) could be good. If he actually wakes up and focuses it is still really just Djoker here that should beat him on paper. But it's tough to see him being fully recovered mentally.

It's kind of ironic that for his best years he was at times trying to hide his backhand or at the very least just use it to set up the forehand and now I don't think there's any question his backhand is the more reliable shot. Roger's main problem is the forehand, any time it's even close to a neutral point it becomes a problem. It was noticeable even at Wimbledon. It's still a good point ending shot right off his serve but neutral or worse and it's now the forehand he needs to hide.

Again on a positive note, the court speed seems to be right for Roger. He cannot handle super fast anymore. Close this one out, sleep it off, work on some serves and movement to the forehand side tomorrow.

Right now you're sounding like one of the fannish freaks. Try to pull back. Much more likely that she came for the heavy-weight first rounder and stayed to watch the guy who's supposed to be a really great tennis player. I'm guessing her limo has taken her home by now.

She's been there quite a few times for eve sessions. She usually stays for both matches so it's hard to say who she's rooting for

Part of what made his slice so dangerous is that he could often get a forehand off the reply, nowadays I rather he doesn't run around the backhand.

He employed the slice a lot this year in the Wimbledon final, which allowed him to stay in the point, while looking for the chance to pull the trigger. It worked for long periods of the match because Djokovic doesn't like the slice.

Better believe it brother. He himself mentioned it last year too, how it was super fast, changing the direction of the ball was a big struggle. (Talking about Cincy) The thing is, you can see it yourself. He cannot defend like he used to so super fast courts hurt him too against players who can hit deep.

I loved playing on fast surfaces! When I was getting up there back in the 90's approaching 40, I could still compete against kids as long as the court was fast! I needed free points from my serve and just attacked the net! If the court was super slow, I was in trouble and ran out of gas! Fed can probably play for a couple more years at Wimbledon and the faster Masters' events and do well, but other than that, he'll look as bad as he does right now against Nagal! He's winning, but it isn't from what he's doing as much as the kid has finally melted down and knows where he is and maybe overwhelmed! :whistle:
