Monfils currently on a walkabout in the 2nd against someone named Marchenko.
Hopefully he can get it together.

At least on the Men's side the upsets were curtailed. Just Kei and La Monf.

My Day 2 Upset - Zverev over Kohli. LOVE Kohlschreiber, but I think he's on the tail end of a solid career, and Zverev has been playing well so far this hardcourt season.

I also like Donald Young's chances against Simon.

I am curious, if you are an opponent of DYjr, what would your strategy be? I just would like to see how others view his game.

Young's aggressive, so of course you want to get a lot of balls back, and draw him into errors. It's not my favorite style of tennis, but I think letting Young trip himself up is the best way to play against him. You also want to force him to make decisions on court, because he does not do that well at all - the mental element of his game is sadly lacking. So I'd throw everything at him - which is something Simon excels at.

Simon has had a poor US hardcourt summer, so I think he's ripe to be knocked off. And as frustrating as Young's career has been, he does seem to show up in NY hungry most years, so I expect him to come out fighting.

Young and Simon in a 5th set, with Donald up an early break.

And Zverev took the first set off PEHK :(

Upset Alert: Goffin possibly going out. He is down 2 sets to 1. Berankis is the opponent.

And he's out ... after fighting to level the match at two sets all, he lost 6-4 in the fifth.

Between this loss and the recent loss to Murray, his confidence will be shaken.

All but three (Nishikori, Monfils, and Dimitrov) of the seeds in the top half made it through to the third round. Interestingly, the ones who didn't were all in Nishikori's section; none from Novak's.

Ricardas Berankis is an able little player. He was a successful junior, but has battled with injuries throughout his professional career. I like Goffin, but would have loved to see Berankis take a nice scalp or two.

Clutch play from David.
