Ana is gone in straights. That's a small upset as she was seeded 14 and Svitolina was 18.

Another zebra bites the dust. :clap

A week of play is over. Of the 16 ladies who were supposed to reach R16 only 9 made it.
That is a success rate of over 50% :snicker

Martina and Sania down a set and down two breaks (4-0) in the second set. Might have to go home.

Halep was up 5-3 on Sun. She lost the first set in TB and is down a break in the 2nd.

Aga was up a set and 3-0 on Sun., only to have Piro win 6 games in a row to level the match.

They are about to walk on court after the lengthy rain delay.

Piro jumps out to a 3-0 lead in the decider. Halep is hanging on for dear life, but still down a break 4-3

Aga gone too. 6-3 in the 3rd. Guess Serena's ranking is secure for now. I'm thinking we'll probably have the same ranking scenario at Wimby though.

I said in the beginning that this event will be like Rome, the draw opening up and lots of seeds dropping all over the place....

I think 5 of the top 8 seeds are already gone. Only Serena, Garbine and Timea are still out. Theoretically speaking Garbine should make the finals being the only respectable player from the bottom half.

Wow, Pironkova? Is Clay the new Grass? :clap

I wonder how much the losses by Halep and Aga are attributable to the rain delay. :puzzled

Well Aga should be haunted she only had to win three games to win and make the QF. Stosur is no slouch on clay and made the finals here like Halep, so that one was a toss up to me.

Pironkova is an underrated clay specialist, she took Bartoli to the river a few years ago...if she gets over her low self esteem she will be a contender.

Seeds in trouble again. Keys gone. CSN down a set and Venus is one game from the door.

Venus did more than I expected and the heavy condition are not favorable to her game.Suarez Navarro is disappointing to say the least.Serena took out Svitolina and Hena with one ball....Keys just couldnt cope with a bigger stronger ballbasher..

The quarterfinals are now set. Of the 8 ladies who were supposed to reach quarterfinals, only three reached (Serena, Timea and Garbine). That is a 37.5% success rate. Needles to say that I expect the eventual champion to be one of these three.

Serena...#22...
go Meka go!

Independent of whether Serena (assuming she reaches finals) faces Garbine or Samantha, the final won't be a walk in the park. Neither of them will be intimidated by Serena. Both have played Serena on big stage in the finals before (and Sam has even won against Serena). Also, Garbine was not at all overawed by the occasion even the first time.

nobody is saying that Serena is underestimating anyone, she has already said that she is aware that she has to be ready for every match...the only one who scares me is Kiki Bertens
I mentioned #22 as a wish.....hope it comes true...just have a good feeling about this event ...if Serena s mind is together she will prevail no matter who is across the net...if its Mugu she knows her mindset and since that 2011 loss to Stosur she has not lost to the Aussie..Serena is battle tested and will be ready..
