Here is your one-stop thread to discuss upsets. I am not going to bother to define what qualifies as an upset. Just use your judgement. You can predict upsets before they happen, discuss it while it is brewing and relish it after it is done. However, the main purpose is to alert other people to watch it as an upset is potentially brewing. So, in that sense this is somewhat like NFL Red Zone channel.
Thanks for being of service to fellow fans.

So far I see that GS champion and 10th seeded Cilic is gone. Also, American Steven Johnson taken out by Fernando Verdasco.

A minor upset is Schwartzaman, a recent 250 clay title winner, losing to G. Pella. But, Pella is also a dirt devil.

Let us keep them coming. :devil

Schwartzman might have won a title, but Pella was the higher ranked.
Definitely an upset is Querrey going down to Fratangelo

I was thinking their rankings must be fairly close. But, Diego ShortMan is 15 places below Pella.

Well this proves winning recently doesn't mean squat; look at Murray and Wawrinka being taken to the limit! :nono

Cilic is the only big upset. Hard to qualify Verdasco defeating Johnson as an upset, considering the former has had a much more succesful career and just won a title, while Johnson has yet to win a title. I know, the rankings.

Querrey is such an odd-duck - he really should have more career accomplishments than he has. He's actually won a bunch of titles: eight, including one ATP 500, but he's never ranked higher than #17, only once ever finished in the year-end top 20 (2010) and never made it to a Slam QF.

He was also born in 1987, the same year as Novak and Andy, and is the (distant) third most accomplished player in terms of titles born that year, edging out Fabio Fognini and Thomaz Bellucci.

I am not saying that Fratangelo beating Sam is a "big upset", but is an upset all right.
Fratangelo was 1-5 at ATP level and in his only second slam he took out a guy ranked 70 spots above him, duck or not.

Dimitrov is out too

But that was not an upset. Troicki who beat him is ranked higher than Dimi now.

Looks as if they caught up and all the 1st round matches are done; Murray will have to play 3 days in a row like Nole had to do last year from semi to final! I think he has a better chance to make it through old men and WC's! :nono

Fabio has played so bad on his favorite surface this year, that I cannot think just that his mind is checked out and preoccupied by his upcoming nuptials. ;):basiate

Andy to be upset in his second round match??

I won't go back to look it up, but I seem to remember someone here saying Murray had such an "easy draw!" Well he's being pushed to the limit by old vets, qualifiers, and WC's! So much for that prediction! This is what drives me near insanity because I know he can do so much more, but won't show it until pushed! It's not impressive going at it like this so early in the draw! Even if he sneaks through this match, emotionally I don't think he can get to the final; even if matches donated to him later! This has been one wild rollercoaster ride so far with just 2 matches and 4 days of play! :puzzled :nono :cover

Two upsets occurred today, both ending with French seeded players eliminated:
Paire was defeated by Gabashvili in 4 sets
Pouille was beaten by the LL Slovakian Andrej Martin in 3 sets.
This last one was shocking to me, I have not been aware until this week about Martin at all.
