Your one stop thread for upsets at RG'19 is here. Before I could get my act together Marco, seeded #16 is gone. While Marco's exit is not that surprising, it is surprising that he went out to Mahut.

Anyway, enter your predictions of upsets for Monday before the game starts.

On Monday, I fully expect unseeded Chardy to oust seeded Edmund.

Two other probable upsets are as follows:

a. Struff might beat Shapo.
b. Herbert, the doubles player, could possibly beat Medvedev.

Krajinovic/Tiafoe
Struff/Shapo
Chardy/Edmund

There shoud be one surprise in these 3 matches, just hard to predict which one.

Well spotted. I tought Herbert is too weak for Medvedev. Russian still need to get past the R1 in RG! And well done to Herbert who seems to feed on the home crowd energy.

I picked Krajinovic against Tiafoe and the serb didn't let me down.

Basilashvili played Lyon last week — rarely a wise decision before a major. I’d love to see statistics showing the average results of players who do this. My guess is they are typically out in the first 3 rounds. I can understand lower-ranked players entering tournaments the week before a major, but if you’re the 15h seed? No.

Agree. Completely unecessary to waste energy the week before for the guy ranked that high. Better concentrate on training and use that week to recharge, mentally and phisically and hope for the good run.

I can only see 2 scenarios why a top player would want to play the week before a slam:
- They've been out and would like some reps and matches on the surface before the slam
- They lost early in the previous tournaments and need a few more matches to get their rhythm
With both scenarios they don't need to win the tournament, get a few matches in and withdraw before QF

shapo gone in straights
Way too easy.

Maybe Shapo is still thinking about the guy who stole his backpack a few days ago when he was checking in the hotel in Paris.
And what was in that backpack? I assume maybe a laptop? Not easy to play a slam thinking about all those nude photos of yourself someone now has

I have no idea about the back pack but I was thinking Denis would go down to Struff, because he was not playing well the whole clay court season, as simple as that.
