Too bad nobody in the world, let alone in this forum, kept saying that Djokovic would lose early... can you believe how much bragging this person would be doing right now? And can you imagine if this person would came up to be a Nadal fan?

Actually Brother Kieran, an ardent Nadalite, predicted in this forum that Novak would lose early at this AO.

Was it Kieran? I thought that someone prophesized the early exit - I believe straight after Doha as well where he looked exemplary in the final as well. It would seem that he is definitely more susceptible to these early upsets

No, he did not. And if you quote posts where he did (with popcorn emoticons on it), I will blame Russian hackers for altering the database.

I think it happens more than we want to believe! Nole's beginning to allow players to stay in matches they have no business in in the 1st place! Last season he started dropping matches to players he "owned;" Cilic, Berdych, Querrey, etc.! I didn't expect much at this AO, but still hoping Nole gets his act together to win another French Open! He needs it for legitimacy! People are still poo-pooing Roger's lone win; me included since Soderling made it all possible! Djokovic needs at least one more to set himself apart from the other ATG who have 1 win at a major; Connors' '74 AO, Rafa's '09 AO, & Roger's '09 FO! :dodgy:

Two potential upsets today. Sock could oust Tsonga and Evans could oust Tomic.

After two rounds of play, of the 32 seeds who were supposed to reach 3rd round 24 of them actually reached. That is a 75% success rate. I would call it a nice blend of status quo and upsets.

berd potentially ousts fed as well. didnt see much from fed in his last match other than fh shanks for me to be anywhere confident he wins this. real questions is whether we consider that an upset. i guess berd is supposed to win this based on ranking but im sure media will look at it as "upset"

Oops, you are right. I forgot to mention the upset of Bird by Fed on my radar. :p

My previous prediction was JowillieTs would take out Sock to end the American run and now Berdych will end Roger's return.

One out of two ain't bad. :)

I don't think Berdych beating Fed would count as an upset given that Roger is ranked below Tomas, and is just coming back from injury.

This is true on paper but I doubt if most of Roger 's fans feel the same way. Especially his legacy older core fans. Roger has beaten Berdych the past 5 times in a row and holds a 16-6 h2h advantage..

Tignor picks : Sock over JowillieTs, Tomic over Evans and Federer to oust Berdych. (Tignor really has been the Kiss of Death this first big week of tennis this year.)

Watching Fed v Roddick Wimbledon final 2005 got me back into watching tennis, and I have supported him ever since. There are other players I enjoy watching, but none of them come close to how much I love seeing Roger Federer in full flow. Does that not make me a "legacy older core fan"?

It doesn't, however, blind me to the realities, which are that Fed is not a clear favourite, and maybe not even a favourite at all, going into this match. I'll still be gutted if he loses today, and elated if he wins - but if he does, it will probably take a lot out of him.

Yet stranger things have happened, so here's hoping for a straight-sets win to Roger ... :sofa:

Today, there are two potential upsets that are in my radar. Ferrer might oust the pusher RBA just due to his experience. Zverev might oust Rafa. However, Zverev has not played that great against his early round opponents. But, hopefully he will be inspired by a beast across the net. Anyway, I am no longer as optimistic about Zverev beating Rafa, as I was when the draw came out.

Form changes dramatically for a lot of guys from match to match. Just look at Roger's first 2 matches in comparison to the match against his toughest opponent yet this tournament (Berdych). Inspired given that Djokovic is out is my guess. Hoping he keep it up against Nishikori too. Kei has such a poor serve Roger should win that one unless he himself has a bad serving day.

I do expect Fed to "upset" kei. I was just talking about "today's" matches only.

Likewise I was talking about Zverev :) He may well play great today or maybe he won't. He's quite erratic but the court is much faster this year and Zverev hits and serves very hard. If he keeps his errors in check it will be tough for Nadal.

Also, sometimes people play to the "perceived" level of their opponent. May be Zverev did not feel the need to bring his A game to his previous opponents. Now that he sees a big scalp across the net, he may be super motivated.

So I get up at 4am to hopefully watch Nadal v Zverev and as expected it's not on at the original scheduled time and is now due to start at 5:30. Screw this. Probably gonna head back to bed for good :nono
