This is your one-stop place to discuss upsets, before, during and after they have happened.
Alerting others of brewing upsets will help them see it live. That is the most important point of this thread.

I don't expect many upsets on Men's side this year. Anybody wants to smell potential upsets of Day 1.

I don't know; does Murray perhaps have distractions that might lead to an early exit?

I doubt it. She's due start of Feb I believe and there's a 2 week window usually so pretty sure she won't give birth during the tournament.

Nadal trying to open up his draw with an innovative approach.... Serves a ball into Murray's groin during practice.

Murray was actually lucky that it was Nadal's puffball. Imagine he practiced with Raonic. Yikes.

Nishikori vs. Kohlschrbrier is the first match on Hisense. It could be interesting. Kohly is always a tough customer. Unless Samurai is sharp, he may get into trouble.

The win that put Kohli on a lot of people's map was that 3rd round upset of Roddick at the 2008 AO. Have to think Kei is a huge favorite, but Kohli knows how to take out the big guys here.

Delbonis (former Fed slayer) delivers the first upset by taking out Dr. Evil. Evil actually retired, after being down 2 sets; don't know what is the problem.

One less "gun" Nole has to dodge in his section of the draw! I wonder what happened? I'm betting it was the heat! Commentators said something about it being toasty; probably triple digits for the next few days! Shocking! :cover

Saw the Nishikori match, no upset there, he played pretty well and controlled the match. As I posted elsewhere, I bet Gilles Muller is taking down Fognini, although I am not sure if Fognini losing to anyone qualifies as an upset.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert took out Andujar. Not sure whether it's a young(er) gun post as he's 24 or an upset as he is ranked 167 and Andujar is 62. Anyway it was a good win in the heat for the Frenchman.

There were plenty of upsets yesterday.

3 Wild cards proved they were worth the trust:

Rubin Noah 19y old form the USA, ranked 328 defeats Benoit Paire ranked 18: 7-6, 7-6, 7-6
Omar Jasika 18y old from AUS, ranked 310 defeats Ilya Marchenko ranked 75: 6-4, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.
Quentin Halys 19y (FRA) ranked 187 defeats Ivan Dodig ranked 78: 6-4, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5.

Also qualifier R. Olivo (ARG) ranked 174 betas Vesely ranked 50 in 5 sets.

Other qualifiers who defeats higher ranked opponents: Basic defeats Haase, Brands beats Estrella Burgos and what nehmeth mentioned, Andujar taken out by Herbert.
The other 2 Croats, Karlovic and Coric early departure is also surprising.

Lot of people think Borna will be a future slam winner. But, I doubt as he does not have WMD.

I am with you. He needs to develop and add some serious weaponry to his arsenal, because he has none at the moment.

Ditto... have the same reservations about the young Croat's game.

No, unfortunately they said he retired with a left knee injury. Hopefully the big dude is alright as he's not getting any younger and it's often a longer healing process for huge guys like him. If healthy though there's no reason he can't play till 40 as he's always a potential spoiler with that serve.
