Looks like Labour is going to win today's election by a lot. Interesting how Britain rather lead the populist movement, with Brexit, and now seems to be coming out the other side, with France just really getting into it.

More along the lines of the Conservative Party completely betraying their base and doing the exact opposite of what they claimed in their manifesto. You only need to read the conservativewoman blog to get a feel of what their middle england base think of them. Next it's Labour's turn to betray their base. Starmer has openly stated that he sees Davos as the future, so look for the technocracy to proceed at a rapid pace.

well that was a shit show but a necessary one. I'm happy to confirm that in my place the Tories held. I'm true blue to the end, as in small 'c' conservative. I sincerely hope that the Conservative Party will take this time out of government to reclaim true conservatism, and not the toxic populism that has been de rigueur since the push for Brexit gathered strength. I want nothing to do with populism hence my antipathy to the likes of Trump and Bojo. I do however recognise the cause of the populist movement, it has its place in political history, particularly when the State dislocates itself from the electorate, and that was certainly. the case post the global financial crisis. Hopefully we'll find our sense of who we are again! So many things to be resolved before we get there. Wealth inequality. The free rein tech moguls seem to have in this era, globalisation, immigration, climate change etc. All needs to be translate into a set of policies or political philosophies consistent with the core beliefs of true conservatism. It can be done but few if any politicians of the centre right have nailed it yet.

I must say I've been amused listening to some of the takes of some foreign pundits about what the UK elections mean. I honestly don't think it's that deep. The Tories were tired, if they're honest I bet you most of them are just relieved to be done with it. Even the gambling-gate that happened during the election should make it very clear that there was a complete ideological, political and psychological exhaustion.
