andy's teenage days ended with injury on his 20th burfdayy in the hamburg masters..

he retired mid-match with wrist injury after which he missed French open and Wimbledon and lost his top10 rank for a bit.

Not sure why Fritz won this... Zverev has had a much better year.

I think it was announced that starting from last year that award automatically goes to the youngest player within the Top 100 now. So that would be the reason why Fritz won it over Zverev (who already got it last year).

It might be better to award it to the best ranked teenager or something like that but because for some years there were no teenager within the Top 100, by awarding it the way they do now the ATP might have tried to make sure it isn't won by someone who is ranked too low ans is still playing exclusively on the challenger circuit or something like that.

I concur @Backhand_DTL - seems silly awarding it to Fritz just because he's six months younger. Zverev has had a far better year.

The ATP have announced a new Nextgen tournament to begin in November 2017. The venue is Milan.

This will be based on a round-robin format featuring 8 of the best young players in the game. 7 go to the Top ranked players + 1 wildcard.

I know. I wasn't thinking something was off with this award. But now that I think about it I'm confused with how they made this selection.

Thanks. I wasn't sure but I thought Zverev had won it before. Still...

Interesting how diverse that list is when it comes to nationality.

There are strange things indeed. Top Spanish juniors are an Austrian Kuhn and a Serbian with Russian mother Davidovic Fokina. Second in the world is a Greek, from Greece?! How shocking. ;-) There are also Uzbek, Chinese, Estonian, Israeli and Arab boys among top players.

I missed this earlier. Thanks, BB. Here's a recent one from ATP.

He's looking to crack the top 50 next year. And he's been picked up by Nike. Go, Frances!

The glass ceiling these young guys need to break is winning a fair share of first round matches if and when they qualify for the tournament proper. Once they keep breaking that first ceiling they begin to accumulate the points that starts putting them in more tournaments without needing to qualify...

That's well-explained. I know Frances is rather down the list of the top #NextGen guys, but he's very strong, has a pretty quick arm, and a humble attitude.

Thanks for that @El Dude... I kind of lump Thiem and Vesely in more with the Nextgen rather than the previous bunch of Dimitrov et al... Maybe, it's just the way they are maturing. I liked what I saw of Vesely last year... he flew under the radar a little as people focused on Zverev and Thiem... Even Fritz seemed to garner more attention. I'm still not overly convinced with Lucas Pouille in the '94 group.

In the 95 group Kyrgios of course has the tools but not the head. I think Sackmann's view of Kyrgios being a one dimensional player is harsh. Like you, I don't think Kyle Edmund's ceiling is really high.

I like Karen Khachanov in the Class of 96... I think he might be the surprise package. More later.
