It is interesting to note that everyone that Rafa defeated in AO starting from 3rd
round (which is where GSs really start) have won a title this year already.

Gael Monfils (3rd Rd), Kei Nishikori (4th Rd), Grigor Dimitrov (QF), Roger Federer (SF).

At the time AO draw came out, Rafa's draw was deemed to be considerably
tougher than Novak's draw and this substantiates it.

While they all are good players (and one of them is arguably 'THE GOAT'), we knew none of them could do any harm to Rafa, take a set of him at max :)

Two of them are "arguably" 'THE GOAT,' counting Rafa himself, since we 'argue' about that all the time. :snigger

Until he meets Swiss #2 in QF at IW.

It's a great question. I'm sick of guys hitting career highs and having successful streaks, only to fade, and not be heard from again -- or at least not for a long time.

If Wawrinka goes out early at IW, it will be revealing of his determination to hang with the big boys, IMO. Anything short of a QF loss to Federer would be a disappointment.

This list is best maintained by editing the original posting instead of retyping all the
stuff.Unfortunately, the forum will not let others edit the OP. Hence, I will do it after the
tournaments of a week are completed and then post a message here saying that it
is updated.

In case, I forget to do so by Monday midnight, someone please send an email
(or alternatively a moderator can edit the OP as per the results).

It is now current as of March 17th 2014.

Who has the best chance to have the complete set of Masters this season; Nadal or Djokovic? Rafa and Nole have played each final, but only Lendl owns all 9 titles; most multiple times! Rafa is behind Nole with 7 of the 9 while his rival has 8 with only Cincinnati his only HURDLE! Right now only Djokovic and Nadal own all 9 titles which is unprecedented; Nole w/ 5 and Rafa w/ 4! Monte Carlo this week could be the game changer!

I actually think it's going to be harder for Djokovic despite needing just Cincy as there are quite a few players who can handle fast hardcourts better than he does.

^If I understand Fiero's question, the only one with a chance to complete the set this season is Nole, because he only lacks Cincy, which is still to come. Rafa still hasn't won either Miami or Paris, and Miami has passed him by again this year. I take your point about Cincy being tough, because of the HC field. I would also add it being fast HC, and, most importantly, the timing. I'm sure he'll care more about his momentum and peaking for the USO. He's got his whole career to complete the box set of Masters. But if he finds himself striding through, I'm sure he won't turn it down. ;)

EDIT: @GSM: Thanks for keeping the list up-dated.

^ Yeah, Nadal's chance is over again for this year but I'd actually rate the chances pretty equal despite the fact that Novak needs one less masters than Rafa to wrap them all up.

Not just because Nadal is no fave of mines, I just see him "running" down by the fall and winter! I've talked about this before where Nadal's upsets tend to be in the summer and fall; hense most of his titles in the first 6 months of the season! He has no WTF titles to go along with a couple Masters missing off his resume! His opportunities are dwindling where I think Nole has a much better chance of taking his lone deficiency in Cinn. this year or the next!

That's funny, and I guess we'll argue against type on this one. I thought Rafa had a decent shot at Paris last year, given his run with Novak in the late season. It was going to be ironic if he got Paris before Miami, as I think everyone agrees it's pretty surprising that Nadal hasn't yet bagged Miami. I do think he'll get Miami someday, but I think his chances for Paris (and the WTF) will come more rarely, being indoor HCs, than Djokovic's opportunities to win Cincy. I fully expect Novak to get the box-set, and I wouldn't be surprised if Rafael doesn't, even if he keeps the record of most MS titles.

Equally it wouldn't surprise me if neither managed to bag the missing masters.
