Well the BS started years ago, now Nadal's going to make his contribution to the PILE! In TennisWorldUSA he said, "In the future I don't want to be remembered as a tennis player with numerous titles but as the one who left a good example for boys and girls; he is my only target. If there is one thing I would like to be able to say that I did well, it is that I have transmitted positive things on and off the pitch, which makes me very satisfied,” concludes the Spaniard." :thinking-face::pile-of-poo::exploding-head:
What’s wrong with that, brother? :popcorn

It sounds great, but it's also a way of easing the pain that after owning Federer thru their rivalry, he won't be thought of as the GOAT no matter what he does from here on out! I'm also skeptical of Nadal even articulating this statement! I feel someone wrote it for him! Just the TROLL in me I guess! It's hard to believe anything players say! I know Djokovic doesn't get the benefit of the doubt while most people take Federer's words like they came down from the mount by way of Moses! I have a huge problem with how unbalanced we react to people, situations, and news! There's no consistency as rationalizations are created depending on a POV! We do it here everyday talking about the GOAT where it's hard to get a consensus on anything!

No, you’re problem is that your opinion carries a fatal contradiction. You say that I should “Stop [dis]respecting pre open era players they beat the best they could at the time with smaller Racquets worst technology health care ect,” but this isn’t true of Emerson at all. He could have become a pro and chose to face the easier path by beating lesser players. The best players in the world were all professionals.

But in your next sentence you say that “Federer played against mugs.”

Rafa’s not a mug, nor is Novak, and all the rest of the players Federer faced were at least the best in the world, no matter how we may rate the field. This is tennis at the highest available today - Emerson avoided that in his day. Seriously, there’s no argument for Emerson as one of the greatest ever, and certainly no argument to place him above the Pistol, or Federer..
Nadal and Djokovic was baby's in Fakerer weak mug era so that's silly point by you. Also I put Emerson as one of the greatest players of all time regardless of your pre open hate. I first say Roy Emerson era is weak than you try to make out Federer useless mug weak era is strong that's double standard Hypocrite right there. You can't have it both ways little girl either their both strong eras or there weak eras. I honestly would have Roy.Emserson above both borg, Sampras and even most Federer majors. Something tell me your a troll because real tennis fans don't undercut pre open era players. And also your never going to get be believe Fakerer weak era was anything but useless because it had baby Nadal or Djokovic doesn't make to strong era they early 20s to teens all of Fakerer weak mug era. Don't because now Djokovic is also has he's own weak mug era so it's fair now?.

Ultimate tennis statistics.com is tennis history it ranks Roy.Emserson 13th all time and laver is still the Goat sorry to tell you this.
These things are not tennis history, they’re a modern attempt to make sense of things but like any statistics based things, they require context. That’s what I’ve tried to provide you, a story that goes beyond statistics…

Federer beat Nadal in the 2017 Australian Open final. He beat Novak in the 2012 Wimbledon semi. Who did Emerson beat? Nobody of that calibre…

Yeah but now you’re reacting to what Rafa said by not giving him the benefit of the doubt. I don’t mind that he said this, he’s been an exceptional role model for kids, and remember he has this great foundation in Mallorca, so he’s probably now looking at his legacy from that direction…

True but never said Federer was not one of greatest of all time just that Me personally would take Roy.Emserson or laver era over Federer. Also Nadal was way past his prime in 2017 Australian Open horrible point by you. Djokovic is 3-0 in Wimbledon finals against Federer on his own backyard lol.

I've found over the many years of my walking this Earth, the most lauded don't say much of anything! Sirens of the past engender all kinds of mystique and lasting charisma when they actually go into seclusion while we never really hear from them again like Greta Garbo! Federer is beloved worldwide by acting humble and charitable when we know he can "act out" like any egomaniac when provoked! I've heard him say to an umpire, "do you know who I am?!" Nole says all the right things, speaks 11 languages, but is reviled by Tennis Intelligentsia due to his intruding on their mythical narratives of Fedal! :thinking-face: :exploding-head::yawningface::facepalm::zippermouthface:

Yes I understand the whole non- professional era compared to professional era thing your saying. but it's unfair as these players can't help that era they was born or who there faced ok. So for me all eras being fair Roy.Emserson is ATG 13th best all time in tennis history in my opinion. Of course your free to think otherwise? Maybe

Again - Emerson chose to face lesser players. The best players of his time were the professionals and he chose to avoid them. He wasn’t even 13th best player in the world when he won his grand slam titles…

Look, you know I’m no great fan of Federer - but I admire him as a great player has to be admired if we’re to retain our sanity and integrity. But we know he won about 9 slams trouncing roddick, gonzo, baggy and fozzy bear, with a grin on his face. You mentioned the sirens, bro - I’m reading a fantastic novel now about Theseus of Athens, the Bull Leaper, he reminds me of the bull of Mallorca, taking the hardest road imaginable. Join me on the bright side, brother! These aren’t sirens calling, they’re angels, and they’re telling you I’m speaking true!

I'm not trying to defend Federer! He was "the man," but he did have some weak competition; esp. in Major finals early on! Unfortunately for him, he has 2 rivals that have surpassed him before he had a chance to retire! I continue to say his legacy would be more secure if he hadn't hung around these last 8-9 years even though acquiring 3 more majors! A "what if" game could have been played, but he's blown it IMO! :D :dance2:
