When I said keeping it close in the Wim 08 final, it was to stay in touch with Nadal so that he wouldn't have to mount an almost impossible comeback from 2 sets down.
I believe that had Fed won that 2nd set in Wim 08, he would've created serious doubts in Nadal's mind if he could EVER win Wimbledon with Federer around. Remember he lost 2 Wimb finals before that and the last one being devastating because he played well above his ability so Fed literally handed to him on a platter in 08. I guess that was the only way he could've won.

Sometimes you're not gonna play your best tennis so it's important that you keep it close so your opponent bare minimum has to earn it. But Federer was playing without any balls in the first 2 sets and kept playing tentative tennis. In the third set it finally hit him that if he doesn't go for his shots, it'll be over in no time.

People often dismiss Federer as just talented but not that hardworking. They forget that 99% of talented players don't utilise their talent because they're too temperamental. Look at Safin, very talented, won slams but overall underachieved. Same for Nalbandian, Rios, Haas, the list goes on.

This is what makes Federer special. Not only was he wildly talented he is one of the very few ultra talented players who utilised his talent. Recall that back in his 19-21 years, he was a hot head too so had he could've gone down with 1 or 2 slams or no slams at all if he hadn't realised what he's capable of.

MF, since GSM and yourself want to break down 08 without acknowledging the truth..Roger’s bh got tired. Can you please breakdown RG 08? There’s no evidence of mono, no known back injuries, no twins, no wife. Just the hot French sun and a complete lesson in clay court Tennis. Even the Dark Lord Darth refuses to be chased down that rabbit hole. However, I have faith that between the two of you this should spawn some competitive thoughts and banter. The floor is yours

Do you have reading comprehension issues? Going down 2 sets to love on grass is keeping it close? Man seriously does this cult have any brains?
No, she doesn't. She doesn't just do basic reading either. She does critical reading too & has an extensive vocab. She has more brains in her little toe than you have in your head.

I think you know deep down that Fed wasn't playing at his 06 or even 07 level and so he gave up in that match when he saw that Nadals level itself was as high as 07 if not higher. He could've lost to Monfils if the latter wasn't a clown.

It was inevitable that the gap on clay was widening with each passing year as they're 5 years apart. Feds chance to win RG was in 06 but the Rome defeat was on his mind. 05 too but Fed wasn't mature with his tactics against Nadal, still early days in the rivalry.

The mono had an impact as it accelerated his decline as Fed himself says he had lost a step. If you don't want to believe it then I don't think you should have issues with Fed fans not believing Nadals umpteen injuries.

Mono or not , Fed wasn't beating Nadal at RG 08 but if he was playing at 07 level the scoreline would have been respectable so it wouldn't have an impact in Wimbledon.

Yea her brains are in her toes alright. Same goes for you since you're probably her evil twin.

It wasn't Roger's eyes that gave out, though, it was his shoulder, and therefore, his FH.

Well then he was in poor shape. There were a couple rain delays and this little thing called adrenaline. If his arm was getting tired then he was weak that match to begin with.

Also it was pretty obvious Monfed was saying that Roger failed to keep it close early on. He was down 2 sets easily and in a hurry with his God-awful play. He only saved some dignity by making the match a small fight against a guy who has a worse record at Wimbledon vs Muller, Darcis, Brown, and Kyrgios than he does against Federer.

We are talking the real debacle of 08, Roger serving up a weak performance on grass and handing one to Ralphy.

I don't think you understand this British expression. It means she's got a lot more brains than you. You talk out of your posterior sometimes. If brains were dynamite you wouldn't have enough to blow yourself up. Don't make me laugh. I've outwitted you at least once. No, I'm not. I'm not evil & neither is she. I respect your right to have & air an opinion. I wish you'd respect everyone else's right to be treated with respect as intelligent, capable & equal human beings.

I'll put it a couple of ways to get the message across to you. Spanish 1st. Ella es muy inteligente y soy inteligente.

Now in French, actuallement, elle est tres intelligente et je suis assez intelligente.

Your perceived notion that he handed one to Ralphy..that’s the one I am referring to

Your previous post was about RG 08. As for Wimbledon I just feel like Roger's performance was C- at best. A million errors and he mostly sucked on big points, atrocious at net, blew a big lead in a must win set. Where do we get that he actually played well in all that? He was a disappointment all year aside from the last weekend of USO. That Wimbledon final was no different.

Even a donkey has an opinion doesn't mean it's the right one.

If you walk into a room full of experts and argue like an amateur then prepare to get embarrassed. Otherwise LISTEN AND LEARN!

Everyone has a right to have & air an opinion on things that there are no right or wrong answers to. The rest of the time you need to look at facts & figures.

I'm normally non-confrontational unless I'm standing up for what I really believe in & I really believe in people's rights to be treated with respect as intelligent, capable & equal human beings. You're not an expert in anything & I'm definitely a lot more capable than you are but I have no problem treating you as an equal if you'll treat everyone else like 1 instead of insulting everyone. I've had really good debates with experts on history which I enjoyed but prefer to leave debating to history which I'm fascinated in. I'm not embarrassed because I know what I am & who I am better than you will ever know. Like I told you before I'm a grandiloquent, articulate, loquacious, kind, polite, helpful & honest person. (Oops! You probably won't know what grandiloquent or loquacious mean.) I may be non-confrontational but that doesn't make me stupid. I'm good at witty word-play & I prefer to write properly whether that's poetry, stories, songs or factual pieces. A lot of people like my poems & stories. My writing is normally well-constructed grammatically, well-punctuated & without spelling mistakes or typographical errors. I do listen & learn what I want to listen to & learn. It's my choice what I want to learn & I learn what I want. You could do with learning etiquette, netiquette, respect & how to treat others as well as how to accept constructive criticism.

Basically from everyone, including sportswriters, who's ever watched the match, except you. Even if, let's say, there was C- in there, you'd never get that for an average across the whole match. There was some A in there, and some less. But you always speak in extremes. For example, he didn't blow a "big lead" in the 2nd set. He was up a break.

4-1 on grass and then he gave up 5 games like it was nothing. Yes that is a big lead. It's one thing giving the break back but then not even taking it to a TB was beyond pathetic.

Everyone talks about it being a great match and rightfully so. It'd take luster off of that if they criticized Roger or Rafa's play but there was plenty to be criticized for Federer. He barely put a foot in right.

I respect all opinions. No one's an expert. You only respect what you like.

I know. We discuss other things too. If you could read properly you'd know what I was on about. I have a problem with your attitude towards others. I think it would be a good idea if you'd stop insulting other people & go back on topic. Please don't tell me what to do. Whether you read it or not is your choice.
