Rafa is just 865 points below Stan in the rankings. Rafa has a decent chances of squeaking into top 4 before RG seedings are determined. At least that is what will be his goal.

Also #4 ranked doubles player, up from #8 after winning his third straight Masters championship with Mahut!

Thanks herios,

Liking Zverev's continued climb... Daniel is also making a splash.

Rajeev Ram? WTF... I like him but surprised at this Indian Summer for his career. He lost today though against Youhzny in Barcelona.

I do not find it as surprising as you do. Tennis has become a veteran's sport, with no less than 38 players aged 30+ years. Some of them manage to achieve their best at an advanced age like:
32y Mahut, 33y F. Lopez, 34y like Munoz de la Nava or Estrella Burgos.
For me it is fun to witness them doing it.

Rafa has 780 points to defend in Madrid + Rome. Stan has only 450 points to defend in Madrid + Rome. According to my calculations in order to move to #4 rankings and thus get the #4 seed at RG, Rafa needs to outperform Stan in these two tournaments by 215 points or more (as a 180 pointer will be removed to create room for the 500 points that Rafa obtained in Barcelona) A doable proposition.

According to the LIVE ranking, now after the Barca final, the gap is 545 points. If they have to defend as much as you said, Rafa will need to outperform Stan by 875 points.

No, it agrees perfectly with my calculation as well

545+ 450 (sta's points at M+R) - 780 (rafa's points at M+R) = 215.

So, Rafa needs to outperform Stan by 215 points in Madrid and Rome put together.

Its rather 545 + 780 - 450 = 875.

Oops!

This is why I should not perform ranking calculations when hungry. :cover

Both Herios and Rahulpawar are right. Rafa should outperform Stan by 875 points.
That looks like a tall order. Even if you give Rafa two finals, just one SF or two quarters
by Stan would prevent it.

So, after all Rafa could again face Novak in QF. May be the draw gods would favor him this time and he will draw Fed (and then may be the tennis gods would favor Fed this time and he will win against Rafa at RG, thus removing the asterisk even from the mind of detractors).
