Not ashamed to admit it, ABBA is one of my all-time favorite groups. Forget the cheesey outfits, this group made some fantastic music.

I've always loved ABBA, too, and I'm glad you're not ashamed to admit it. :)

It bothers me when people say they're ashamed to admit they like so-and-so. Music, like other art forms, is subjective. There are no right or wrong answers when it comes to what you do and do not like.

Agree! I've gotten my share of ridicule for liking ABBA more than Led Zepplin or the Beatles over the years but who cares. I know what i like, and i like it.

2011 Live Version of Stevie Nicks' Stand Back. A bit different from the original version but this is pretty awesome too. She's still got it!

I'll co-sign this. I recently watched a documentary about the evolution of the band. They were huge, and it was great listening to their music again. It's funny that, in the UK at least, their music always gets played near the end of office parties. I guess the idea is that you can't go wrong with the classics! :)

I was browsing through channels one evening, and came across this lady playing live. Fell in love with her music right away and bought the album this song is on. Totally worth it! Enjoy :)

And here's a blast from the past. My dad forbade me from going to M.I.T as he felt it was too far away :cry. For some reason I associate this song with those times. Not because it had just come out, but I happened to be listening to it a lot at the time. Probably had something to do with a girl :snicker

Peter Cetera...'Glory of love'

In my humble opinion, the song that utterly captures the 80s! :hug

And finally I couldn't resist...

I went to a party at a friends University, I was a couple of years from university, but I met a gorgeous girl at the party. One of those memories one never forgets. This is the song that's attached to that memory :D

Saw her and Fleetwood Mac live when they came here in Nov. She definitely still has it and so does Christine McVie (who's been off the tour for at least 15 years). :clap

It's so hard to quantify which song(s) capture the 80's. Part of me feels like it should be a song from a John Hughes movie. It could just as easily be All Night Long from Lionel, Last Dance from Donna Summer or Celebration from Kool n the Gang.

Whoa. You saw Stevie Nicks? :eyepop

Along with Fleetwood Mac!? :wow:

And Christine McVie was there as well?! :faint

Now if you tell me McVie sang "Songbird", I may never get this shade of green out of my skin. ;)

When I saw Fleetwood Mac, in about 1979/1980 (the Tusk tour), the very last song they played was Songbird. By that point -- their third or fourth encore -- it was down to just Christine, John, and Lindsey. Mick and Stevie were off-stage.

If I had to chose a song that captures the 80s, there are many but this song is the one that pops into my head. It's not upbeat like the others but I immediately slip back to 1984 when I hear this. It seems to have all the sounds that were popular back then. It kinda puts me into a melancholy mood though. The lead singer in the song, Benjamin Orr passed away in 2000 (cancer).

^That is a great track! People might criticise the fashion in the 80s, but no one can talk smack about the music. Not my favourite decade (70s and all the funk for me), but it was a good one. Particularly in comparison to all the fluff these days :nono No originality anymore

Another favorite group is Eurythmics. I love so many of their songs. I came across "Beethoven (I Love to Listen To)" the other day. Hadn't seen it for ages. Love Annie Lennox's acting in this.

Here is one of my favorites from the Seventies. Gerry Rafferty had a pleasant sounding voice that everybody seemed to love listening to. May he rest in peace.

Like a Rolling Stone is fifty years old, incredibly. I have to think that it's a song only Bob Dylan could write, and he was meant to write it, and after this song, anything became possible in rock songs. He dialed it up to eleven. Not even he could match it, although on the album it came from - Highway 61 Revisited - Desolation Row runs it close. And so does Tombstone Blues. Oh, and the title track. And a couple of others...
