This is a song imagining what answers Willie McBride would have for Eric Bogle's song.

I'm posting the following video because I need some today because I'm a triskaidecophobic & think something is going to go wrong today as it's the 13th. Nothing has gone wrong yet but there's time.

I will add my opinion on 1 piece of today's news but I think my post might be moderated to delete it. If so, I'm very sorry for giving a moderator more work to do but I feel the need to comment on this. We did get some good news today which in the case of most people would have been bad. Tha dunt normally celebrate over t'death of anyone because it's normally sad but ah was glad to hear at 11 that T'Yorkshire Ripper was deid because of all those women he killed.

Actually, I'm very sorry! I guess I'm going to be warned or told off for this.

Happy St. Andrews Day!

I've got to go steady here because there are some Scottish songs with a lot of big arguments about whether they're Scottish or Irish & there are some Irish songs the same & I don't want an argument. That's why I normally call them Scots/Irish. They're songs like Mhairi's wedding & Maggie which I like both Scottish & Irish versions of. I prefer the bagpipe versions of these songs. I know that although people think that only Scotsmen play bagpipes but at 1 time the whole of Britain played them. Unfortunately the only places that still play bagpipes are Cumberland, Northumberland, Scotland & Ireland. They're different styles of bagpipes & are played differently though. Only Scottish bagpipes are played mainly by the mouth with a bag being kept full of air by being blown into & bellows being pumped up by arms & a charmer played like a recorder to make different notes. The other bagpipes are played by keeping a bag full of air by bellows being pumped up by the musicians arms & a charmer that looks like a recorder being played to make different notes. I think Irish pipes are called Aeolian pipes or something like that though for some reason I felt tempted to put a u in the name of Irelands pipes.

This song is most definitely Scottish though to finish off our Scottish medley for St. Andrew's Day.

40 years ago we lost a great composer - John Lennon. His music still lives because people think it's worth copying. Her is a really great cover by some talented girls from England called The Monalisa Twins - enjoy their masterpiace of Imagine - lots of other Beatles covers by these two 26 year olds (well not on this but)

And let's remember another Beatle - George - who also left us way too early. Here The Monalisa Twins give us -While my guitar gently weeps

And here the whole band is playing in The Cavern club playing You're going to lose that girl - great eh?

I agree. John Lennon was a great singer/song-writer. He died too soon. I disagree with you on why his music still lives on though. I think his music still lives on because of all the good quality records he made which were later made into cassettes & C.D.s as well as the fact that they made a good film. (It's debatable whether the other film is good or not. *A Hard Days Night is a good film. The film "Help!" is daft in my opinion.* The same goes for the animated 1. *I don't think Yellow submarine is very good but it was aimed at children.* I prefer John's version of Imagine. I prefer the Beatles songs sung by the Beatles though I like The Carpenter's version of "Ticket to ride". Yesterday will have made Beatles songs popular again though I think the singer in the film is a bit off in places & I don't really care for the film.

I agree George died too young but lots of other singers died too early though like Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, Karen Carpenter, Steven Gaitley & Hank Williams. Out of George's songs I prefer "My Sweet Lord".

I'm very sorry to disappoint you but although I agree they can sing & play I don't think they're anything like the Beatles. I can sing more like the Beatles than they can. I'm just not an instrumentalist. I never got the chance to learn an instrument. I always passed voice test at school & got told I had to sing in music class & join choir. The only break I got from singing in music class at school was when they taught us to song-write.

HORSA I will bring a couple more of MonaLisa Twins and it's your freedom to dislike it I don't mind. Here a Stones number - The last time

And a Kinks cover of Lola

Lovin Spoonfull -Daydream

And Lovin Spoonful hit Did you ever have to make up your mind together with who?

They make the numbers their own that's the good thing about MonaLisa Twins and then - they can play AND sing - not many artist today can do that without using autotune.

Last number today is a Beatles cover from The Cavern Club -You're gonna loose that girl

I enjoyed some of the songs you shared there, Hoergren. I agree that they can both play & sing which is something not many musicians can do today without using auto-tune. As I work in the arts/crafts, history & music side of heritage preservation though when I listen to songs which are 50 years old or older I think of them in terms of how close they sound to the original therefore the more authentic they sound the better. During normal times I end up planning & vocally conducting 1920's & 1940's sing-songs for 1920's & 1940's Days which have to be done as authentically as possible including costumes, make-up & voice tones & tune as well as songs. When I'm the Victorian Carol-singer for Dickensian Xmas fairs at work, I have to dress like a Victorian Carol-singer including the hair-style & sing the Carols like the Victorians did. I think that it's good that they make the songs their own but I don't only think of music like a singer but like a heritage preservationist too. I'm lucky in that not only do I enjoy what I do & not only do I like who I work with, not only are they fun, fascinating & supportive & not only do I get a fun, fascinating & varied role but it incorporates my hobbies too. The down-side of this is I don't get much time off because my time off is spent on hobbies which I get to practise at work too. I'm thinking of learning a keyboard instrument though. I agree, sometimes it's good for people to do their own versions of old songs not just mimic them. I like people to write & perform their own songs too.

I'm very sorry for the delayed response but I've been very busy & I realise I may have come across as abrupt last time so I waited until I was happier as I lost my Uncle on the 7th & I was trying to hide the fact that I was upset. I'm very sorry if I came across as abrupt. My Uncle was a good singer & he played guitar & harmonica well. He was especially good at "Please release me". We always had a weekly sing-song at my Grandma's when I was a little girl.

I found that fascinating, Hoergren & was inspired & touched by their story. It is indeed fascinating. I had a lot more to say but not enough time to say it so forgot what I was going to say. I like their original works & when they delve into different styles.

very sad to hear Gerry Marsden has passed away at 78 after a short illness. He was lead singer of Gerry and the Pacemakers and in the 1963-1966 period had a good run of hits as impressive as the Beatles, both UK and US markets. He was also from liverpool region. R.I.P Gerry -

Me too. He was a very good singer. My Sister went to see him at Batley variety club. She said he was a nice guy & got his autograph. She can't find it now, though. I think he did the best version of "You'll never walk alone". R.I.P. Gerry.

Time for some originals and a cover by The MonaLisa Twins - first one of their recent tunes Sweet Loraine - performed as a duo

A beautiful Still a friend of mine - could have been written in the 60ties

I don't know birds that well - well do you? Here an original from 2013 when they were 19 - good eh?

And a cover of Dylans It ain't me babe

I got all of their records as a special x-mas gift to myself in 2020 - experiencing the special heavy duty after the Brexit damage. Because of the COrana virus some of my order were first delivered in the middle of January - even if it was ordered a FULL month earlier. I had ordered for £23 and had to pay extra £24 in duty expedition and local vat - so £47 for two cds!!! But I like them anyway as one of them came with signature from the twins. Have a nice week-end.

It's two sisters and a close friend playing together - here another example an Aeoro Smith cover Walk This Way - I think they will be pretty good so keep an eye on them . this is from 05.01.2021
