First 25 pages of the Jimbo book, impressions:
- His OCD is off the charts ( I did not know that, apparently neither did he), makes Nadal look normal...
- First sentence on page 10, about JMac " Our rivalry is based on respect"...I have been using that word a lot lately.
- I never knew his mom and grandpa got the crap beaten out of them at a tennis court by a couple of punks, right in front of him.

I am not sure if these are spoilers . If people feel that way, I will stop and Mods should feel free to delete the post.

Also, I am not sure if this post should be moved to the books thread either...I just posted it here since the discussion started here.

Oh, he'll certainly win a match alright, but I don't think it'll be the sixth match. But it seems wrong that they were drawn that way. Legally correct, but morally dubious, if I could strain the meaning of that word. There's a correctness in the two best players meeting in a final and I think this match will be the final before the fact...

Are you guys surprised by that? Maybe he was portrayed differently in Canada and the UK, but I honestly can't remember any tennis player more full of himself than Connors.

Just finished Connors book. Quite a good read, much of it about his life in general without going into minute detail about matches. He does come across a very self-centred, but then again, it's an autobiography - so I guess it should to some extent.

He didn't seem like a particularly pleasant guy to be around for people outside of his inner circle but he does acknowledge a lot of his character flaws. I guess, without those, chances are he wouldn't have been so successful.

In a nutshell - worth a read, it's one of the better tennis autobiographies. Not quite on a level with Agassi's but far better than the ones by Sampras and McEnroe.

He didn't seem like a particularly pleasant guy to be around for people outside of his inner circle but he does acknowledge a lot of his character flaws. I guess, without those, chances are he wouldn't have been so successful.

In a nutshell - worth a read, it's one of the better tennis autobiographies. Not quite on a level with Agassi's but far better than the ones by Sampras and McEnroe.

I am finally finished with the book as well. As a tennis autobiography, I liked it. The problem for me was that I never cared for Connors before the book, and I still don't care for him after the book. There were some surprising moments, but I expected him to talk about currents players a bit and he did not at all. I understand it is his book but he was so full of himself I had to laugh.

Sounds worth a read. The Sampras and McEnroe books were huge disappointments, but Agassi's was excellent...

It's cheaper on Kindle if you read on a phone/tablet. I don't think I'd have stretched to buying a hardback. Worth a read though.

Funny enough, the Connors book is in Dublin bookshops in paperback. I don't have Kindle or things like that. They're handy for that, I know. I'm a bit of an old-skooler when it comes to books, preferring the hard copy. I'll read it in the future, but so far I dip in when I visit the book shop, go to the index and read what he's saying about my favourite players. I think his time with Roddick gets dispatched in about two paragraphs, does it?
