Is it annoying that people in the US refer to football as soccer, yet still use the word football for something else? (No answer here will offend me. I'm not one of those people who become outraged when anyone criticizes something from the US.)

Personally, after encountering so many non-US fans over the internet, I try never to use the word soccer anymore.

I live in Oz, and it's referred to as soccer here also.
To confuse things even more. If you said football or "footy" - in the states of Queensland and New South Wales, they would assume you were talking about Rugby League. In the other states, it would mean Australian Rules Football.

No, because nobody outside the US cares for your sah-car or 'football' or rounders, er, baseball. We don't follow them. So American sah-car is a non-entity. I had to laugh yesterday at a newspaper article that suggested Beckham retired after playing for the best clubs in the world: Man Utd, Madrid, PSG and LA Galaxy Bar Foxfur Marauders, or whatever they're calling it.

Baseball is huge in latin america and asia (probably bigger than in the U.S. at this point). It is the game though that we all grew up playing the most in people back yards, etc. Fidel Castro could have played in the MLB!

As for the other debate. I use the football/soccer distinction, but I am a big American football fan. That and tennis are the two sports I follow. It's not an insult to Fuuuhtball. At this point it is just pragmatic if you live in the U.S. If you didn't notice as soon as soccer came up, it was last call for me at the frontier bar.

I haven't read it yet, but Chris Evert is supposed to be fuming about some of the material - the strongly hinted at abortion and various other personal details.
