Congratulations to Nadal for finishing a year at number one for a 5th time

Now all the members of the big three Nadal, Federer and Djokovic have had the same amount of year-end no.1 finishes! ;)

And Nadal has now guaranteed himself several additional weeks at no.1, which will put him well over the 200+ weeks mark!

Haters often used the weeks at no.1 & year-end finishes against Nadal, but now he has nothing left to prove in that department.

Well I would venture both Rafa and Novak have realistic chances next year to tie The great Pete’s Open record of six years YE ranked #1, though Sampras uniquely did those 6 years consecutively.

Yeah that record is one which won't be broken anytime soon. Credit to Sampras.

yeah but someone is over 300 weeks

Sure but Rafa has a shot to get way past the 200 weeks mark and closer to the top echelon. The point is at 200+ and 5+ the ranking is not a weakness anymore. I’d say he will end up with at least 250 weeks and 6 YE#1 finishes. So once he gets the slam record the whole no.1 argument can’t be used against him as a weakness.

I’m thinking “Never say never,” blah, blah, blah .... but I don’t expect to see anyone finishing year-end no. 1 seven times in a row.

Well that's why I said it won't be broken anytime soon. Most records will eventually be broken but I genuinely don't see that one being broken for a long, long time. It'll take a decade on tour where there is basically not much competition and one absolute animal on top beating everyone. Chances are slim.

Exactly what it will take, and if that happens, I may not be watching men's tennis, then. That's one reason I didn't watch in the Pete era.

dull got YE#1 in both 2017 and 2019 thanks to Fed.

dull should name his first born Roger, that is if he isn't impotent.

Dull? Impotent?

How about if Rafa buys a dog instead and names it Roger?

Dog names are usually never Roger or Peter. They're usually Rafael, Novak etc. Some of the dog owners give their dogs pet names like "Rafa" or "Nole".

five non years in a row+ longest gap between first number one to now 2008-2019, also the only one of the big 3 to have year end number one in two different decs 2000s 2010s.
What do you mean by five non years in a row.

Rafa's terrified of dogs. I don't think you'll see one in the Nadal household any time soon.
Funny how often you bring that up. Given how fearless he is on the tennis courts, maybe it's a comfort to you. What I think is weird is that he doesn't like cheese.

1. at the age of 33 nadal was the oldest person to finish as year end number one] 2. nadal become the first player to finish to hold, lose and regain the year end no.1 four occasions] 3. nadal become the first player to finish as the year end no.1 five times non-consecutive years] 4.. the eleven gap between nadal first year end no.1 season [2008] and his last [ 2019] was also a record.

Yep, on average about once every 18 months. You can set your clock by it.
