Were you able to watch the final? He was striking the ball well and going for his shots, something I haven't often seen from him in the past. Overall I was quite pleased. It's just at the key moments, in the first set and early in the third, that he reverted to old form. Hopefully he can stick with the new script throughout a match and start turning them into wins.
Tomic tried his best most of the time last night with a Thiem in the zone.
That was not an easy task, considering Tomic still is a clearly weaker mover, although he has improved in that aspect.
Dominic is playing basically a clay court match on a HC surface. He serves big, last night he was truly good there with 78% first serve in, then he hits hard trying to out maneuver his opponent. The long rallies went mostly to Dominic, because Tomic ended up making an UE being on the run.
Bernie therefore, many times tried to shorten the points, going for some risky shots. Some went in and they were a beauty, but those were less than he would have needed.
Bottom line is both oif them have improved and that is nice to see.
Thiem had an outstanding February, the player of the month without a doubt. If he caries this form on the European clay, a top 10 is definitely in the cards for him.
