Grigor has the Safin predilection to save his best energies for the bedroom. He got bullied off the court by a kid he should be able to outplay.

Dear Domi
If you are this pushy, you just go ahead.
I prefer anyways to have fun with my girlfriend this week end, if you know what I mean:)

Ola,
Grigor

This is a move up for Grigor (from losing to Rajeev Ram).

That is true, but losing to Thiem has profound meanings IMO.
Dominic has recorded success only on clay up to this point (4 events won).
Grigor is the older and more successful player on HC. Losing to Dominic in their first meeting on Dominic's weaker surface, it means that the younger player passes him by not just in rankings, nut also in overall abilities. Psychologically can have implications in the long run.

I was just going to ask if we could officially stick a fork in Dimitrov now. I think he is the white Donald Young. On the other hand - I like Thiem's game and he seems to be a lot more willing to take chances and go for his shots. He also plays a better match strategically than Dimitrov...which really wouldn't be that hard because sometimes I think Dimitrov's just hoping the other guy misses.

I think I figured out who Grigor is. He is Roger Federer during practice sessions. He can't dial it up beyond practice level Roger, so he looks good but he's got no teeth.

I saw the last two sets of a fascinating battle between Dolgo and Bernie Tomic.
Dolgo was toying in the first set with Tomic, which ended with 6-1 according to the commentators, and Bernie looked completely out of it.
In the second set, Dolgo started to become casual and spraying some UE, while Bernie who was until that just hanging in, suddenly got an opening and broke to end the set 6-4.
In the third, Bernie got wings and played really well, while Dolgo could not get back into it anymore.
Score: 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 for Tomic.

It'd be nice to see Bernie win a title with all his personal strife....I hope he's put that madness behind him...would probably start with putting some distance between him and his dad:s

I had seen this happen to Dolg on multiple occasions.

Stage fright. Can't perform on the big occasion. Well who knows, he is banging Nicole Scherzinger after all! And she seems to be happy so far so he must be performing better than on the tennis court :snicker

Finished watching Thiem's match against Querrey. Sam has played some very consistent tennis the past few weeks and the young Austrian dismantled him last night. Bernie had a nice comeback against the Dolg, but I think Thiem will take this.

If he does, this will be his first 500 trophy, right?

Thiem is one aggressive baseliner. Tomic's had his opportunities and just hasn't been able to capitalize. He still goes passive in the wrong moments.

Passive is an understatement. Tomic pushes the ball back. It could be a conscious tactic, but dull to watch, given his ability to hit when he feels like it.

Were you able to watch the final? He was striking the ball well and going for his shots, something I haven't often seen from him in the past. Overall I was quite pleased. It's just at the key moments, in the first set and early in the third, that he reverted to old form. Hopefully he can stick with the new script throughout a match and start turning them into wins.
