Stanislas Wawrinka in Novi Sad, Serbia: "I just think in Melbourne all the pieces came together. I was really 100 percent playing Novak,'' Wawrinka said. ''When I am there and play my best game, I can beat all those players."

Great attitude from Stan. He's obviously learned from a master. #MagnusNorman #RogerFederer :clap

Respectfully,

That's a great mentality and I hope he takes it further this year with some other great victories.

The hump he went over in beating Nole was a huge one. The confidence that comes with it will be considerable BUT he has to remember belief by itself will not get it done. Got to show up every day, bring the lunch pail and stay fit.

Novak's gonna be praying Stan doesn't end up playing him at RG.

Didn't think of that! Cool. He deserves it. I wonder how many linespeople will get shoved and abused by Ferrer this year on way to trying to get back to having his own quarter.

That's assuming a lot; needing to make the semi since he's currently #3 and probably won't fall past #4 by French Open! Nole's lost one match to him! I hardly think he's going to fret playing Stan when he's won the majority of their matches; hard fought, but still went to Djokovic! In any match these days, people look at how Nole played and how much he controlled the action! These days, it really is on him more than any other player right now! Since taking on Becker, I'll give Nole that one loss and not worry about meeting up with Stan again; IW, Miami, or any other event for that matter!

It's gonna be interesting anyway. A best of 3 victory over top ranked players prior to RG would perk Stan up even more and then he could be very dangerous.

Wow...there is such a thing as "Stan's quarter " now !...Times they change...

Good point. In fairness, no one should want Stan in their quarter in Paris. He's a quality clay-courter, and now he's swaggering. Good for him. :clap

I'll also be interested to see what Sergi Bruguera can do for Gasquet this clay season. It's always been one of, if not his best surface(s) so it'd be nice to see another French player doing well, with Tsonga also doing well in recent years.

Stan has, by far, the best chance of any player of completing the Calendar Slam this year.

He won the AO, so he's the only one who has a chance this year.

For those who haven't read our blogger Colin Chambers' post on Stan and the match, it's a good read:

I was trying to be humorous, but now you ruined it for me.

Why humorous? He's the only guy with a shot this year. :clap

Sorry. I've seen too many posts like that over the years which were not meant to be humorous.

Why cringing? And I think you should read the blog post. First-person account of why Stan might have won the AO. And I, for one, put him as #3 with most potential for the FO, at this moment. OK, not so much for Wimbledon. ;) As to the USO, it depends on his year, but he's still deep in the mix, though not top 5, at this point, or likely even by August.
