I know its too early to predict but I will wager my money on the defending champion. This is the match Serena has been waiting for all year long.
I dont understand Sloane s hatred of Serena, even in her interview she said some things that are disturbing.I know its one thing to be childish, but to hold a grudge like this its borderline jealousy on Sloane s part.
I hope Serena beat her like she beat pova......Serena should stop with this praise of this ungrateful girl who doesnt appreciate her..let her get praise from Clijsters her idol.

I think Serena has taken the high road throughout this series of incidents. She has set an example of how to behave and respond appropriately. As a result, I hope she continues to praise Sloane. If nothing else, it will make Serena look better and better, while making Sloane look petty (if Sloane should say something else unkind about Serena, I mean).

I am giving Sloane a 33% chance of winning this and 50% chance of winning a set.

Serena in 3 sets is my pick!

Even though Serena had very little difficulty with Shevdova, she looked tired and obviously disinterested in having to play such a late night game. I hope I see that energy level at full tilt when she plays Sloane. Even this north of the border watcher will have a keen interest in the match. Pam Schriver really can annoy me sometimes with her inane questions, Mike is okay, Chrissie does a decent yet boring job. Will see what the CBS crew has in store for the weekend.

Right! Serena has never played this much before.

I just hope She hasn't overdone it.

They should not let Pam do the interview as they are walking onto the court. She's asking questions such as, just an example, "last time she beat you love and love, how will it be different?"

Why would you do that type of question as players are about to play?

Not only this, but I have to think Andy Murray hates her by now. Before his late night match the other day, she said something to the effect that he's used to waiting (re: how long it took for him to win a Grand Slam) and then expected him to respond to that??? After his next match and he throws his stuff out into the crowd, which everyone does, the first question she asks is ' do you really think anyone wants your sweaty towel and arm bands, what are they going to do with them'. Andy looked pretty nonplussed....I wish she was just go away.

I think RJD is talking about how many tournys Serena has played this year.

Anyway, Serena vs. Sloane match will be the 3rd match(last day session match) on Ashe Stadium.

I think she has played as many tournaments before up to this point, just she wasn't winning as many matches in the tour event due to lack of effort.

If I recall correctly, in 2009, she lost 4 straight match starting in Miami final and 3 clay tournies leading up to the French that year alone.

Doesn't "passing of the torch" require the player whom the torch is supposely being passed to actually win a major or at least one of the bigger tour events?

"passing of the sparkler" then..

or even
"the passing of the lit match".

I don't think Serena is going to let this match get away from her. I think Sloane will probably be the tighter of the two knowing that she beat Serena this year, and people may be expecting her to do so again. I said the same thing about Vika going into the Open her winning Cincy may have been a double-edged sword as people will expect her to perform now. Serena just has to be Serena.

I predict Serena will get this in straights. I doubt either set will even go to a tiebreak. Probably something like 6-4, 6-2

Also, I hope Serena is prepared to hear the crowd be pro-Sloane. My gut tells me everyone will be wanting Sloane to pull it out.
