2017 is approaching us and we are all eagerly waiting for it to unfold. Some of us who are fans of Federer or Nadal are hoping for a great comeback by their favourite. Federer fans want to see him glide gracefully on the court again whereas Nadal fans want to see his forehand in full action at Roland Garros. Djokovic fans are also hoping to see their champ come back to winning the big titles. Murray, fans who are the most pumped up, want to see Murray make the best use of his momentum and take more big titles next year.

If you were to think about the 4 slams next year, how would you objectively think about the chances of each player? Do you think Federer or Nadal will rule their backyards once again or Djokovic will win his 2nd French Open. Do you think Murray will take the upcoming Australian Open? Do you think a member of the lost generation (as El dude puts it, a player born in the period 1989-93) will put it all together to win one of the 4 elusive titles?

Make your predictions in this format:

Australian Open: 'Name'
French Open: 'Name'
Wimbledon: 'Name'
US Open: 'Name'

You can also explain about your predictions AND/OR include more content. Discuss freely.
Make your predictions objectively. It's another thing I was thinking we could do to pass time.

Too soon for me to make predictions because there are way too many unknowns with Federer, Djokovic and Nadal. Is Roger and Rafa fully "healed" from their injuries and have they revamped their games to knockout Novak. Is Novak interested in being the World's best or is his head still with the Bollywood actress. Novak seemed too congratulatory to Stan, JMDP and Andy for relieving him of all those major titles. I bet Roger and Rafa was saying, where was this guy when he met us on finals Sundays of the Past. I will give this thread a bump later in January after we see who really is Hungry again or is it just Andy and Stan.

I won't hide it, this is my blatant wish hahaha, but there isn't much that needs to fall in place for it to happen; it's far from a miracle. Here it goes:
Australian Open: Murray def Raonic
French Open: Nadal def Thiem
Wimbledon: Federer def Murray
US Open: Del Potro def Dimitrov

But it's very unpredictable, I have no clue ,honestly. Only the AO is somewhat clear as to who will even be gunning for the title, but even that is debatable.

And just for the sake of it, Del Potro ends the year as #7. Let's see how wrong I will be.
Edit: I completely disregarded Stanimal. There is a big question mark floating over him. One can crush the ball only for so long. He will likely show up very strong in Australia but who knows.

Predictions are indeed really hard to make right now. But predictions can only be done before the results come out.

My predictions:

Australian Open: Murray
French Open: Djokovic/Nadal
Wimbledon: Murray/Raonic
US Open: Djokovic/Raonic

Wimbledon is the most unpredictable slam as it seems now. We don't know what will Djokovic's morale be like during that time and it will depend a lot on how the first half pans out. As far as the young guns are concerned, perhaps Kyrgios will make the semi but not anything more than that.
I do think Federer will have his small chance at Wimbledon but Raonic should be better poised to make it to the finals with the same draw. He is right there to take his opportunities. Federer will need the most favourable draw possible for his seeding to get to the semis with enough in his tank for the last 2 matches. Djokovic's grass court game might be declining as he is losing his strength.

US Open is also pretty open. It always is. Expect Raonic to maybe win his first slam either at Wimbledon or here. Djokovic is going to be there once again and will have really good chances. I will be surprised otherwise. This along with Wimbledon are the two slams where Raonic or a young gun has their best chance.

A lot is unsure about Djokovic. The guy can bring his A-game at any time but I mostly would think in the second half only.

Murray will have a good chance in every slam except FO (under the condition that Nadal shows up in top form)

Nadal will have good chances at FO. I don't think Thiem has a chance because Murray, Djokovic and Nadal are still much stronger.

My bold predictions:

Raonic takes a slam in 2017. Kyrgios breaks into top 8 and gets to WTF.

I would love to see the young guns make big jumps next year. It would be good if they won a masters or a slam. But, that is still some sort of a non-possibility. Everyone should watch out for Cilic who still has a game to win a slam. Lastly, I hope Roger proves me wrong and wins Wimbledon. :)

You completely disregarded Djoker too, and by disregarding him so completely, he's kinda the most noticeable thing about your post. ;)

I think Oz is going to Murray next year, I reckon he can surf the wave a little longer, and Novak will find the strain of flying over Bollywood on his way Down Under too debilitating, and he has a long tempting flight maybe near Russia, and his plane might get too crowded and he'll be exhausted with the lot of them. :popcorn

If Rafa can play on clay as well as he did this year, he has a shot in Paris, but the huge caveat involves him getting a fist-pump wrenching victory against Novak or Andy. Just to show he's back, and not still struggling. I think Stan and Andy will both be in the mix there too, and possibly Thiem, or another youngster, but I don't think Novak will do well this time.

At Wimbledon, a fit again Roger will go deep, but no further than quarters, where a Raonic type will bulldoze him in straights. Andy will be favourite, and I think Nick is gonna be straightened out by then, and we'll have a final that's between the generations, with maybe a huge upset in store.

At the USO, I expect Novak and Andy and Stan to bully their way through to the latter stages, and Roger and Rafa to finally meet there, with the obvious, inevitable, usual result.

By the way, I think Novak will struggle in 2017. His issues seem deeper than just gold medal fatigue. He's genuinely upset, and maybe motivation issues play a part, but he's struggling, and I don't think he'll find any easy solutions, especially if Andy continues to show such strenghth of character and desire. It'll be the Year of Muzz!

I do think Djokovic will find a way out of his ongoing entanglements. He is a 12-time GS champion who we are talking about. I don't expect him to shy away. These are legends who have shaken us their fighting spirit in the past in historic matches and tournaments. He has been chasing Roger's legacy and it's not right to think he doesn't have any such intention now. Mostly, one or two years ago, he had been looking forward to the remainder of his career with enthusiasm. I don't expect that to have been jeopardised due to his issues in 2016 no matter what they were. These are world champions. He will back playing good tennis as soon as Australian Open. If not, expect him to play the finals of RG.

AO should be interesting although it's the one slam I mostly get to see only the final 'cos of the time difference which sucks. Likely lots of this going on now in preparation :p That's what I call hard training, nothing like hard work. Can't beat it.

I wouldn't mind it, but doubt the result! Both Stan and Juan M. have all the skill in the world, but between inconsistency with one and fragility of the other, 1 or both will blow it! I do hope Nole picks up another FO to solidify his "GOAT'dom!" Two CGS would set him apart from the other 2; big time! :dodgy: :clap

* Rational vote Wishful thinking
AUS: Wawrinka Wawrinka
FRENCH: Thiem del Potro
WIMB: Raonic Federer
USOPEN: del Potro Federer

I purposely left Djokovic out as he is a close second or a tie for first in all rational votes, so it would get repetitive. I left Murray out because I don´t like him, and it is Sunday, after all.

No  for Rafa..I thought you may give him a 50/50 chance for RG..although he needs AO like minorities need a cell phone when there are encounters with the police(I'm just be extremely honest)

My picks:

AO: Murray def Djokovic
RG: Djokovic def Thiem
Wimbledon: Raonic def Murray
USO: Djokovic def del Potro

Not terribly risky, but my best guess right now. Major caveats of course for Nadal at RG if fully healthy there, Fed at Wimbledon depending on how his return goes. I'm also picking Djoko to get his YE #1 crown back.
